Have been able to enjoy it the last couple of days where we've also had some decent weather smile

Had to fill up again today, it likes to get through 99RON at an alarming rate hehe still, what a way to burn some hydrocarbons.

Good to hear that the light saga has reached a satisfactory ending.

The old broken filler cap string; do my head in. Luckily you can get replacements on eBay for a few quid.
It's never bothered me because the cap has a pointy bit which fits in a small hole on the inside of the fuel filler flap, so it just sits there when I refuel so no issue.
I know the cap sits inside the filler flap just fine, but my OCD means I keep ordering the straps on Ebay!
I gather that after many years the seals on the filler caps can go. For the sale of £20 or so I'd just order a brand new cap which comes with a new string.

I definitely don't miss the E9x M3's drink problem either! hehe

Nice to see that you enjoyed a bit of roof down motoring in the MG too. thumbup

Gave the car a clean earlier. Nothing much, just snow foam, wash the wheels, tyres and then the paintwork. Just some tyre gel and then clean up the exhaust tips.

Depending on the light it can look very close to silver, but in that low sunlight it definitely has a blue tint to it.

What’s your technique, if any, for the exhaust tips?

Ultra fine wire wool (grade 0000), damp it with some water and get some Barkeepers Friend. No need for expensive metal polish smile they come up really well.

I know you use Gtechniq stuff, you can coat them with C1/C4/C5 as it will withstand the heat. I haven't done so with mine but may in the future.

That’s great, I was looking at the wire wool on cleanyourcar website, they have 00 and 000.

Good to know about C5, impressive stuff.

I think with 000, and definitely 00, you'd end up with a fairly scratched surface. You can also get it from Amazon cheaply. This is what I used

Autosol is banging for exhaust tops, then a little wheel cleaner everytime I wash the car to stay on top of it.

Yep I was tempted to get some a while ago, but tried this method and don't see a reason to change until I run out. Works very well. I am not sure how much cleaner a dedicated metal polish would get the inside of the exhaust, but that would soon get scooted up, anyway.

Naturally, it rained today. I don't think I'll be using the car for about 2 weeks now though. Although a little weaker than it has been, water still beading despite applying no coating since last June. I'll give it some more this summer, although it won't need polishing at all.

Wow you're far more detailed then me - I don't even bother trying to polish the inside!

The ends of mine are sooty within 200 miles or so although the outsides stay clean a bit longer.

It isn’t really about how quickly they spot up, rather the ease with which they’re restored to a polished finish.

Apologies if I’m due a parrot.

Same here; I never let the filler dangle, it’s just annoying seeing it broken….probably more so in an M3 due to spending more time at the petrol station! laugh
