So I was at work today, parked in the car park, and some old duffer (maybe 75+) was trying to park next to it, my colleague grabbed me and said "I think they've just hit your car!". I went out and sure enough, there are some marks to the rear bumper.

I knocked on their car window, and said they'd hit my car and they said "If it wasn't parked like that I wouldn't have hit it" to which I replied "but it's in a parking space, and it is parked like that, and you've reversed into a stationary object and caused some damage. We need to exchange insurance details".

She got out, looked at the damage and said "your going to make a claim for that?!" to which I said "yes, because it's damage that you have caused".

Took her details, I have 2 witnesses, and have already filed a claim on my insurance who said they'll contact me and her soon. No changes will happen to my premium because the vehicle was parked and I wasn't even in it.

Have emailed photos to my trusted bodyshop. Yes, it's minor, but I don't see why I shouldn't have it put right.

I bet you were annoyed to say the least Ross. I'm sorry to see that, and I hope that it gets sorted for you as quickly/easy as possible.

I'm loving your forum name change by the way! thumbup

Yes I'm pretty miffed to be honest, the marks will get sorted but her attitude absolutely stunk, that has annoyed me more. You could tell her car had been through similar numerous times! Check out this image.....!

That’s really annoying especially on a new car!

Her attitude really does stink. Looks like she reverts to touch parking!

Impressive beard!!

I shall just wait to hear from bodyshop and insurance company soon. I'm hoping the insurance company will let me use my bodyshop of choice, I am happy with the one I know.

When I’ve had these situations happen the attitude test is important. If they’re apologetic and nice about it, I’ll either let them off or ask for a bit of cash and have the job done myself. If they’re an arse about it, then it’s insurance details and go via official routes. I think in this case I’d do the latter.

Nothing wrong with an appropriate user name - well until you change your car!

I hope you get a good outcome fixing the damage inflicted by the careless/gormless/clueless (delete as appropriate). thumbup

It really is a minor amount of damage and I think a good machine polisher would probably get it out to be honest, but her attitude stunk, so if I can get a respray and get the rear bumper in better condition than it was then why not rinse her insurance policy hehe

Car dropped off round to my "The Man" so he can take it to work tomorrow. It is getting quite a lot done:

OSR suspension dust cover
2x rear suspension "integral links" - 1 was flagged as having "very minor play" in the service it had 400-500 miles ago, so I'm replacing both
2x Michelin PS4S tyres (may be PS4, not sure yet, I'll find out soon enough!)
8x NGK LKR8AP spark plugs
Reset heated seat module to see if it fixes the glitch, if not, new heater element
New thermostat and coolant change

I doubt I'll get it back tomorrow, I'm expecting Tuesday, but we'll see.

Quote from bodyshop for full bumper respray and repair (there's a very minor dent too) is £660.

I called the woman and said "this is the quote, we either go cash or through insurance. It's worth bearing in mind that your voluntary and compulsory excess charges may be around the £600 mark, but you'd then have raised premiums for a few years, and therefore you may be better off paying cash."

She was so rude and said that it's a joke and shouldn't cost more than £200, so I just said" well if that's how you want to play it we go through insurance, but it could cost you more."

You can't help stupid son, you've tried your best to be a helpful person, and had it thrown back in your face - take the tunc to the cleaners.

Shame you weren't sat in your car checking emails on your phone or something at the time, given how much of a Karen they're being would have been nice to have strung them up for a 'whiplash' claim too rofl

I had similar with some woman in a Motability car.. I was sat in my car at the time. She didn't even realised she'd done it, the mark was similar to yours, but when she said Motability and it was a small mark I just couldn't be arsed with it. She offered up her insurance.. If she had been a dick about it, I may have pursued it. Annoying though!

Definitely no need to be nice or helpful if she's being like that. She can look forward to at least five years of higher premiums now.

Jesus feck! Some folk should not be on the road

She clearly doesn't give 2sts with her attitude!

Go through insurance and hopefully that'll then cost her too much to afford and she'll be forced off the road!

What a twonk... mad

Anyways; maintenance work sounds good, it'll be like a new car after all that biggrin

Someone's suggested I request a "like for like" car instead of some crappy one to make her claim more expensive to bump her premium up even more hehe
