What a great thread and shows what hard work, luck and dedication can give you.
I was lucky to be at a talk given by Roger Nathan who also lived a life that was fascinating. As he spoke he kept remembering little things about his racing, how he started an airline in Africa. He has written a couple of books which in my opinion did not really scratch the surface of how he lived his life. The two hours flew buy and he could have kept going for hours.
If you ever sat down and wrote your biography it would sell as these days your life makes all the wannabees who write a story after 5 years about nothing.
Thank you for your writing so far

One benefit was 100 yards from my home in Ickenham Road I made good friends with Philip Wood, the son of Bill Wood of the specialist car body builders Wood and Pickett. See link: https://mk1-performance-conversions.co.uk/wood-n-p...
As a result of this friendship with Philip and Eddie Collins the W and P manager they created for me a brand new one-off MGBGT with rectangular headlamps and horizontal rear lights,
Small world. I've lived in Ickenham since 1986 and did business with Eddie Collins from 1990 until he sold his business in about 2020. Most of the time with his company following his association with W&P, Automotive Styling. Eddie lives in North Harrow. An absolute gent, one of the most decent people I know. Real old school. He was early 80s when I last spoke with him a couple of years ago. Sadly he too lost his wife ( I would often bump into them at the weekend and they liked to shop in Ruislip High St) but he himself was in good health at that time. Looked 15 years younger that he was. Hi Roger, I'm a Kiwi who's been living in the UK since '96.
In my younger days back in NZ I used to fly the usual light aircraft (Supercub, Piper Arrows, Beagle Pup, Cessna 172 etc).
Flying through the Southern Alps in the South Island and the Fijords of Fiordland is some of the best flying I've ever experienced.
This is BIG country - Fiordland National Park has about two access road into it and then it 's just 12,600 sq km (4,868 sq mile) of uninhabited, ancient, veritigous temperature rain forest (10m of rain per year).
What might interest you is that in NZ we used Dakotas as crop-dusters (top-dressing we call it down under) - so I thought you might enjoy this clip:

I was fascinated to hear the member from Ickenham, knew Eddie Collins whom l knew from his days with Wood and Pickett, Indeed he as a true gentleman and I often wondered what happened to my friend Philip Wood as l lost contact donkey years ago. The Ruislip and Ickenham area played a large part of my teen years whilst my father was stationed at RAF Northolt serving with Met Comm Squadron flying DH Devons and Pembrokes. I remember he was constantly flying Harold Wilson the then Prime Minister. Initially l lived in Portal Close West End Road and then Lysander Road. As a teen then with my pals every week we went to Burtons Uxbridge to see groups such as The Who, Brian Poole, Cliff Bennett, Yardbirds. Weekends were spent on the beach and boating in Ruislip Lido - happy days .
If I happen to bump into Eddie I'll pass on your regards, but I haven't seen him for a couple of years. Never heard of Portal Close so that might not be there anymore, but Lysander certainly is. Just diagonally opposite the HS2 nightmare. I feel sorry for the residents. HS2 has wrecked much the area. I can't go for a piss without getting held up at 5 sets of temp lights. The constant heavy lorries have destroyed the roads which are closed for resurfacing every 3 months. It's horrific. Breakspear Rd South is shut so traffic is diverted down Swakeleys Rd, up past West Ruislip, down Ruislip High St and up Bury St. It's a total disaster. I've basically given up driving anywhere local and just cycle instead. Never heard of Burtons, so that's long gone too. Ruislip Lido has been completely transformed now and is fantastic. A proper beach, palm trees, kids play things, a free waterpark, miniature railway. I go running there often.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...Well that took an unexpected turn. I followed the link Shaw Tarse posted to the Campie thread but his original post was deleted and hadn’t been quoted so gone. What was the gist of it?
Also someone said R B-C needed some positive publicity, why?
Seemed an interesting man if it was in fact him and not an AI bot. If it was a bot it was still more interesting than 50% of those on here…..including me.

As usual, the doubters on PH wreck things for everyone and the most interesting posters leave. I recall another thread years ago with people doubting a guy’s car collection - turned out they were all real and he was in fact the CEO of a well known shoe company. He can be found on Instagram instead these days - with a private account
