Thank you for the very entertaining posts Roger. I wonder, as you lived in Beaconsfield and have strong connections with the RAF, did you happen to know my godfather Eric Dunn, who lived in the same town ?

Brilliant read, please keep the stories coming. The fleeing flight story could be a movie by itself

Loving your threads Roger. I'd seen your name a couple of times in relation to aviation and ex mod property. One of my grandfathers was RAF and the other was Fleet Air arm for over 50 years though I broke the mould unfortunately and have never sat up front in an aircraft other than in a few noisy Seakings.
Lamborghinis and Roll's aside, what's the best 'normal' car you've owned? A rather successful fellow I know swears by his late 90's Hyundai despite having far more exciting stuff at his disposal.
Just a quick edit to add; Silverstone and Brands Hatch in the late sixties... did you know an Iain McDonald or a Georgina Fox? You'll be fed up with all the questions from us PH folks before you know it!

When I started my airline Macedonian Aviation at Southend I took my de Havilland Dove G-APZU to Eagle Air Services at Leavesdon near Watford for upgrading and respray, Whilst there I took my Rolls Royce Corniche and
Lamborghini Espada to be used in the preparation of our brochures as shown in th attached brochure
LOL. It's literally only a 10 minute walk to Leavesden Aerodrome for me ( now Leavesden Studios of course ).

Amazing pictures and anecdotes.
I was born in Telemark (as was my mother), and had an Espada a long time ago. I can only imagine a Miura on those roads, must have been amazing. I suggest you take a look at the Lamborghini classics section on this website.
Thank you for posting and sorry to hear of the loss of your wife.

As I said before my dear late wife loved cars possibly even more than me (only joking) She did surprise me one year she said she wanted to go to the Goodwood Revival which surprised me as I did not know she even knew about it or where it was.I knew Goodwood race track like the back of my hand as my father was stationed only one mile away at RAF Tangmere in the late 1950s. My chums and I on every race day would creep under the fence and spend all day watching the racing with the likes of Mike Hawthorn Graham Hill and Stirling Moss participating. What I did not realise my dear wife was good friends with some of the Playboy Bunnies and on the day I attended tthey were there carrying out Charity Duties - nice girls and it made my day
Do you have any pictures of Tangmere? The house I grew up in backed on to the (long since disused) airfield and I still have a lot of friends in that area.

Good morning Roger, fascinating story and very sorry for your loss. Still kicking myself, that i didnt have the 3 grand needed to buy a badly damaged Miura S many years ago.
In the mid 1980s, i was the van driver @ a long gone clothes whole salers @ Shoreditch called Nat Shine. Jonathan Seif - we called him Johny ( the son of the guy that you bought your Miura from ? ) was taken on for work experience. I well recall the manager Brian, saying to me " M+S ker ching ker ching ! "
The Jonathan Seif that you bought your Miura from, was also one of the directors of BMW Concessionairs GB in the early 1970s. Seems that he had his fingers in many pies.
Love the photo of the red V12 E in the snow !
Do you have any more photos of the E Types and Espadas ?

Thanks so very much for the kind words over the loss of my beautiful fun loving wife of 50 years together so being on your platform brings solace and an interesting escapism....and happy memories
Appreciate all the comments and photos of my black Miura SV I owned for almost 4 years from 1972, After I bought it from Jonathan Sieff of M & S it had his number plate on it - JS 27 which I kept on and left on when I sold it. It spent more time in Norway than the UK then and I was told at the time it was the only Lambo in Norway because in those pre North sea oil days it was a poor country. Back in the day in my misspent youth I had a penchant for personalised number plates - no particular reason and I will try and recall them. I had 1FUB, JOY10D, UHO1 WHO5 1OK, BBC1T
Lovely picture! It looks very similar to the interior I once saw in a blue Miura.

Didn't UHO 1 appear on various UK Lambos in the 1970s ? Think it was Roger Philips' "official" press car registration - if such a thing existed.

I only worked with former RAF personnel and over the ensuing 30 years we were privileged enough to have bought 36 sites from the MOD.
Awesome stories and collection of previous motors! As an aside, what did you do with these disused MOD bases?

Always fancied turning one in to a race circuit in the same vein as Silverstone in the early days cool

Great story and pictures.

Wish I could have been in a position to buy a Miura and a Ferrari at 25 after starting work at 20.

Not jealous at all, honest biglaugh

Loving all of the pics and stories Roger.

I understand that you were born in Cardiff (as was I)

I also see that you bid on the MOD Married Quarters portfolio. I'm a property lawyer and my firm acted for Annington who were the successful bidders although I didn't have much involvement.

Another family friend also bid on that portfolio, Robert Hodge, the son of Sir Julian Hodge who was the founder of the Bank of Wales.

Looking forward to more installments.
