VW Taigo 1.0 3 pot turbo

Said goodbye today to my 2014 Fiesta ST that I’ve owned from new.

WFH and having younger drivers using my car, I decided it was time for a change. I collected my new Taigo this morning.

1.0 3 pot turbo, with 110hp and 7 speed DSG, R line trim
(I used to have the Forum username 5potTurbo, so it's all downsized!)

Lots of tech in a Polo platformed car…..surprisingly nippy, too.

I like the Taigo, it's my favourite VW SUV and I much prefer it to T-Cross and T-Roc.

I've spent a few weeks driving them as service loan cars and hire cars on holiday. If I was changing my Mk7.5 Golf for a petrol car I would go with the Taigo rather than a Mk8 Golf.

They have a great combination of handling and comfort out of the three.

The 1.0 is a good engine, pulls very well on the motorway.

My wife has a Fabia with the 1.0TSi (110) engine + 6-speed manual gearbox. I'm very impressed. Zips up the hills around us & high geared enough to be a decent cruiser on the motorway. Its 148ftlb of torque at a little over 2000rpm certainly helps & suits my wife's 'relaxed' driving style. The car also weighs less than 1100kg.

The first 600km worked out at 6 l./100km, which is 47mpg in old money.

That's an impressive amount of torque from such a small engine, being a three pot helps but impressive non the less

I know people in Europe often seem to do very high mileages vs UK users - do you happen to know anyone with high miles (kilometres ) on the VW 3cyl engine?

Daughter has the same engine in a SEAT Ateca and it's already over 60K miles - she changed her job just after she got the car and now has a chunky commute. It's frankly astonishing how well the Ateca goes and I asked the indie garage we use about high mileage and they shrugged and said all the ones they encounter are just used locally.

Hasn't this got proper dashboard controls, compared with most modern VW's, which I assume makes it much more user friendly?

Funnily enough, I had one as a loan car today for work. I then check PH after work to see this thread. I can’t escape them today.

I only drove it thirty miles or so today and came away pleasantly surprised; the windscreen felt narrow (ie: sporty) and it was refined and adequately powerful. Enjoy your example!

I followed one of these while I was heading to an appointment last week. I can't say I've seen many since they were launched compared to the T Roc or the Tiguan. Hopefully it treats you well OP!

I don’t. I don’t know anyone with a 3 cyl VW engined car.

Hi. I’m not sure I understand what you mean? It’s a virtual cockpit, so there are a number of options as to what’s shown in front of you, including a rev counter and speedometer, instead of the nav view. You can also have a smaller nav view in the middle, between the rev counter and speedo.

Thanks. I’m very happy with it. I’m pleased I waited for it to be built instead of taking a car from stock that wasn’t blue.

Typical though, when you have one, you see loads of them. Passed 4 on Saturday on the E42 on our journey to/from NL.

Agreed. It’s nice that VW gives people the option of these fastback-roofed cars for people who want a bit more style, and aren’t fussed about giving up a bit of boot space. Saw a lot of Taigos on the road on a recent road trip holiday in Northern Spain.

VW’s crossover range is pretty comprehensive now. And that’s before you start counting all the Seat and Skoda variants!

I only started looking at the range in detail when I got a T-Roc as a hire car on holiday recently, and had to check Wikipedia to work out where it fitted in with the rest of all the other VW crossovers.

With the exception of the Touraeg, I think they’re all based on the MQB platform (in varying lengths).

• T-Cross - Polo based, MQB A0 platform
• Taigo - fastback version of T-Cross
• T-Roc - Golf Mk7 based, MQB A1 platform
• Tiguan - MQB A2 platform, with more upright roofline
• Tiguan Allspace - also MQB A2 platform, but with longer body
• Touareg - MLB platform, shared with the big Audi SUVs and Porsche Cayenne.

VW has been pushing them as, unlike most VW models, they're actually available, and there's loads in our local (smallish) dealer.

I don't recall ever seeing one on the road though.

They're made in Pamplona, so that may be a reason you saw so many.


1,500km in and still loving it.
The LED matrix headlights are AMAZING, and it's frugal around town and on motorways.

nice looking car, I do think that they are missing a trick by not offering the 1.5 petrol, from driving the same engined golf from time to time, I find the 1ltr too gutless and 3 cyl is not a pleasant sound up the revs for medium to long motorway drives but I suppose they dont want it to take sales from the other models.
