To give some perspective i had a timing chain stretch on a golf 1.4tsi last year, i sold it for spares and repairs as the garage was saying new engine @ 8k or something. With FWSH, heated leather, upgraded audio etc looking at AT i might have got 6k for it fully working but took 3k as i don't have the skills to fix it.

Even mundane cars can throw an eye watering bill.

That’s true, I was very close to selling it for £2k but decided it was worth saving.

I’m off to Stuttgart next week, I hope the car doesn’t let me down.

I am in Stuttgart at the moment.

Unfortunately my Range Rover is in The Netherlands with a broken engine.

I hope your trip is successful.

Make sure you have good European breakdown cover, it has been a godsend,

I thought this was no longer possible for U.K. residents?

A number of bargeistes speak positively about Autoaid, which also extends cover to older vehicles -- the main providers tend to cap at fifteen years.

Great car and thread
If visiting Stuttgart and the Porsche museum (highly recommended!) the factory is inside the Stuttgart low emissions zone. You need a €15 green sticker in your windscreen with your number plate on
You can order them on line or pick up in MOT/TUV stations in Germany when you get there.
It’s camera controlled a la ULEZ but not sure it reads UK plates?

Thanks smile

Ive got the sticker, I just need to do the bank transfer to pay for it. Odd system that, they send you the sticker and then you pay after it arrives?

Yes - odd
Some great car spotting in the car park under the museum to incl factory cars. So make sure you park down there or go down if you take the tram
If you take your own car you can also park up for a bit on the pavement under the entrance and get some pictures. No one seems to care or stop you. Makes for an interesting active display

I’m hoping there & back is three tanks? 1100 miles, should be doable in 300 litres of fuel right?

Pray for me!

I've found a hotel close to the musuem, I orginally was going to book the V8 but as thats 30 mins drive away from the Musuem I erred on the side of caution. The hotel It's a mere 500m walk, I'm hoping to do both the Porsche & MB Musuems on the same day and then travel back home on the following day, which is a lot of driving in a short amount of time. I really hope that the Cryenne gets me there & back with out issue.

I've driven nearly 600 miles since the repairs and the car is feeling great, but I'm still proper nervous.

Sadly I can't extend the trip due to needing to be back for a funeral.

Allow yourself a whole day for the MB Museum, you'll need it.

It'll be fine. It's practically all motorway, so same gear, similar revs, minimum braking. Reset the average speed and consumption when you leave.

Have you driven in Germany before?

Sadly not an option, time poor. The main attraction is the Porsche museum.

I’ve driven abroad a bunch but never on my own in the car.
