Little update,
The car settling into its daily duties it very relaxing to drive and the ability to get away quick from junctions is really fun.
So far averaging 22.7mpg which is mainly sub urban driving. I was as high as 30mpg on open country roads.
I’ve got some slight play in the front wheel bearing which I’ve been told I can tighten manually , so I’ll give that a go tomorrow while I’m washing the car.
The trip computer range having had adjusted in really accurate, which is pleasant surprise.
The idle seems to be a tad high in Neutral or Park once warmed up so I may look into this, I feel like the idle stop might have been adjusted a bit too high. As when I got the car it did struggle to idle due to the TPS, so perhaps this was adjusted. I’m certain it should be closer to 750rpm than 1000rpm it’s at now
You're right, they are very relaxed to just cruise around in.The car settling into its daily duties it very relaxing to drive and the ability to get away quick from junctions is really fun.

22.7mpg sub urban doesn't sound too bad, I'm sure my 2.8i averaged around 23/24mpg over the time I had it.
The bad news is I've dug out my Haynes manual, admittedly for 1985 to 88 models but it does include a supplement for the 2.4i and 2.9i. It says "Both front and rear wheel bearings are of a special taper-roller type and require no periodic adjustment in service" and the section detailing replacing front bearings after removing the stub axle carrier says "undo the hub nut" & "this nut is very tight" which makes me think the bearings can't just be tightened up.
It would be great if I was proved wrong on that though!
Anyway 1,000 rpm sounds very high for the idle, but it does look like there may be an adjustable stop on the linkage and/or for the cable so hopefully that can be sorted.

Yeah I’ll have a look this afternoon, just cleaned the car to ensure the mud and grit doesn’t stick around for too long
Iv just done a wheel bearing on mine. (94 2.9 24v)
Yours will be the earlier type so im not 100% on the process but itll be very similar, There's a plastic cap on the rear of the hub, behind it is a 41mm nut. Mikwaukee impact removed it with no issues.
The stub axle then comes out the hub and your bearing will be a 2 piece. (Like you'd find in a drum brake)
Later cars 1992 on have a 1 piece bearing held in by circlips.

Caused by a dodgy water temp sensor on one of mineI had a bit more time this evening so I decided to fix the odometer
What a simple yet enjoyable process, fiddly but hopefully sorted !
Firstly I have to pull the gauges out, just 4 screws held it in
Then I had to pull all the bulbs out in cluster, and remove the printed circuit board to then release the odometer instrument
Two screws hold the another circuit board on the side of the odometer, one was covered by plastic so I drilled a small hole to access this
Once drilled I pulled the circuit board out and revealed the offending article
Replaced it and built it back up, hopefully that sorts it

Thanks I’m a bit into recording fuel used and true mpg so I actually missed it. And I was sick of it saying 126,000 miles. I wanna do many miles in it and take it to 150,000 or 200,000
I’m more amazed that I can fix it and someone makes spare parts, it could well have been a throw away and buy another job.

Nice work on the speedo surgery, bravo.
I'm going to go slightly against the consensus here and say the spoilerdoesnt spoil it. The original design is great, but that addition in the correct matching colour would, I think, look great as its not ostentatious and very much 'of the era'. Plus you can put coffee cups on it.

Edit; I've just remembered I've an owners manual for the mk3 Granada somewhere, I'll dig it out and see if it has any clues re; the runaway cruise control.
Finally dug out the Haynes manual but it doesn't give any info on how the cruise control actually works, it just tells you how to dismantle it but it sounds like you have it sorted now anyway. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
