lot of respect for the defender

was the vehicle of choice in Bosnia for the facilities contractors, we had a few, and they could go nearly every where, often went places unintentionally aswell... but the would get out usually by their own steam. onboard winches a great thing indeed.

relatively easy to work on and fix, which you did a lot.

driving them.... aye they were tiresome, unlike a car where it was easy to get in and drive, a landie required that you say on it and drove it all the time, it was a ponderous wandering beast. long trips would tire you out quicker than a car would. but they are unique and brilliant. LR messed up killing them off. should have went for updating the design like this. but brining in an equivalent updated freelander nah.... ill leave it thanks. the new defender isnt a patch on the old.

Yeah I’m assuming by it’s an e-throttle / DBW thing.

It’s not awful and is easy to “drive around” the issue so to speak.

I was listening to the Smith & Sniff podcast about the Ineos Granadine earlier. Absolutely scathing! laugh
Jonny hates SUVs to the point of irrationality so I'm not surprised.

Let me guess, whilst you drink flat beer in the smoke your Grenadier is sitting under a foot of snow in rural Aberdeenshire

No idea - I assume it’s because commercial classification - even though HMRC don’t treat it as such for BIK and VAT reclaim. Two branches of government not talking, nothing new there eh?

Happy to keep up to date on this owners thread-I guess you know my thoughts on it from our conversations on various Grenadier threads-best of luck with it!

I was passed by one of these on the M11 last week driving like an absolute arse. It didn't seem to suit the car and made me a bit sad for it.

Yes I recognised your name from some of the other threads.

Thanks very much, I’m really pretty delighted with it so far.

In the spirit of a balanced review and recording the downsides as well the things I like, here’s one.

An £80k utility vehicle really ought to have a heated front screen.

I actually thought it did have a heated screen until I went to use it and it just put the blowers on max aimed at the screen. My wife’s 20yo Defender has a heated screen!!

My 2019 Transit has and so useful in really cold weather.

We were away this weekend but the weather station shows -11 low last night.

Don’t blame the car. But yeah I would have been surprised too.

They have heated mirrors and washers.
Only negative that I see is poor turning circle which can make parking somewhat challenging, along with fairly poor fuel consumption.
22 to 25 mpg isn’t too good when driving like Miss Daisy.

Sorry, yes you’re absolutely right about the mirrors and washers.

Turning circle - if you’re used to driving vans it’s really not an issue.

Fuel consumption, well, yeah it is what it is I guess. Tank size and therefore range seems to be a complaint from a lot of Australian testers/buyers/users.

Great write up on your Grenadier. We are looking at one to replace our Navara but the cost puts me off somewhat. I'm keen to hear how you get on with it.

I actually saw one in Stonehaven at the weekend, think it's the first one I've seen on the road.

Thanks, yes I’ve only seen a couple around Aberdeen but there are a few in the Huntly/Elgin sort of area.

Not having a sales agent up doesn’t help.

I've been hoping someone would post a Readers' Cars thread, thanks Lefty, it's a fascinating read. I'll be following with interest.

Theres one of these knocking around the local villages close to where I live, they look far better in the metal and look deliberately like an old Defender. I did feel pretty sorry for the guy as he snaked around the B road, my Tourneo Custom likely has better road manners!

The overhead switches you get in them, will they be of any use or are they just a gimmick?
