lot of respect for the defender
was the vehicle of choice in Bosnia for the facilities contractors, we had a few, and they could go nearly every where, often went places unintentionally aswell... but the would get out usually by their own steam. onboard winches a great thing indeed.
relatively easy to work on and fix, which you did a lot.
driving them.... aye they were tiresome, unlike a car where it was easy to get in and drive, a landie required that you say on it and drove it all the time, it was a ponderous wandering beast. long trips would tire you out quicker than a car would. but they are unique and brilliant. LR messed up killing them off. should have went for updating the design like this. but brining in an equivalent updated freelander nah.... ill leave it thanks. the new defender isnt a patch on the old.

In the spirit of a balanced review and recording the downsides as well the things I like, here’s one.
An £80k utility vehicle really ought to have a heated front screen.
I actually thought it did have a heated screen until I went to use it and it just put the blowers on max aimed at the screen. My wife’s 20yo Defender has a heated screen!!
My 2019 Transit has and so useful in really cold weather.
We were away this weekend but the weather station shows -11 low last night.

Sorry, yes you’re absolutely right about the mirrors and washers.
Turning circle - if you’re used to driving vans it’s really not an issue.
Fuel consumption, well, yeah it is what it is I guess. Tank size and therefore range seems to be a complaint from a lot of Australian testers/buyers/users.

I've been hoping someone would post a Readers' Cars thread, thanks Lefty, it's a fascinating read. I'll be following with interest.
Theres one of these knocking around the local villages close to where I live, they look far better in the metal and look deliberately like an old Defender. I did feel pretty sorry for the guy as he snaked around the B road, my Tourneo Custom likely has better road manners!
The overhead switches you get in them, will they be of any use or are they just a gimmick?
