Scimitar GTE RV8
Discussion
I'd seen this Scimitar a few times over the last few years listed for sale. Felt like I had missed out on it a few times.
I've been wanting one for the best part of a decade, especially an SE5/5A in Nevada yellow!
Foolishly I purchased a red 1974 SE5A from auction back in October, which had a 3.9 RV8 fitted. The car didn't start but I was advised by all the internet mechanics that it would just need a replacement fuel pump - it didn't. It actually needs a new engine, the one fitted was so badly bodged just before sale that it would cost more rebuilding it than sourcing a new engine. Also, the chassis is in a very poor shape, with bad accident repair work, along with needing a complete brake and suspension overhaul. Shame really, as the body is in perfect condition and the interior would be good with a small amount of work.
I was planning on remedying all these issues, but the idea of putting around £20k into a car that's never going to be worth more than £10k and that I already paid over half that purchasing, just doesn't sit right with me. So I'll either sell it, part it out or just hang on to it with hopes I can afford to do something with it in the future.
Then at the beginning of January, another SE5A came up for sale on Car & Classic. This one being a 1972 in Highland Purple, with Wolfrace alloys and almost half the price of what the other one owes me, I knew I had to have it and so I treated myself to an early 30th birthday present. It's pretty ratty honestly, the paint work is so poor, the vinyl roof is shrinking and the window seals are letting in so much water its ridiculous. But mechanically it's pretty sorted! It had a replacement chassis that is in fantastic condition, the engine has had a bunch of upgrades in recent years and the best bit is it actually runs.
I still pine after a Nevada yellow Scimitar, especially YCL 600L that I missed out on twice, but I love my purple car. I will never sell it and can't wait to improve on it!
So congratulations on your purchase, it's awesome!

Sounds like you turned a bad day into a good one, got any pictures of your purple beast?
Decided to repair the original axel which Is now prepped and ready to be fitted... so I have a spare salisbury 4HA axle if you need one, happy to part with it for what I paid for it..... it's in great nick and comes with all the gubbins..

Yeah I know your username from the RSSOC forum, I was the other guy that was like a day late to trying to come view it haha
Yes I remember now. It’s always the same, you have a car for sale for a couple of months and two people want it at the same time. I think you did well to avoid it the first time around, I can to put quite a bit of time and money into the car to get it how I wanted it. Hope you find a car soon.

This is my one.
Thanks for the offer, but mines in great shape!
I am, and she is now back on the road with a repaired/stronger axel.. Next job is to sort the interior out, new dash and dial surround and potentially some new carpets..
the windows will all have to come out at some point to be to have new rubbers fitted but that can wait till after the better weather ( we are all hoping for) has passed..
Are you local to Hove?

Very nice! Just had mine serviced and it's running so tight now. Aside from the speedo and rev counter both failing...
Yeah next on my list is new quarter light seals, then new dash top, seat refurb and new carpets as mine are both crumbly and constantly wet.
I'm over in Seaford so not far, over in Brighton/Hove a few times a week, so hopefully I'll run into you at some point! Would be great to finally see the car in person
