An update for those who are interested! the body work was proving to be beyond my abilities, I just couldn't get the shape right, I have taken the offer of a friend to finish the shell at a local technical college.but this will take a couple of years !! (only cost for me is the top coats though )
I was able to obtain this metalic grey 1967 shell for a fair price in presentable condition so I bought it,it needed a fair amount of repairs to the boot floor, tunnel and nosecone, the wonderful summer we have had dramatically slowed progress down to snails pace!! The dash I need is proving elusive, with all of the specialists being out of stock till recently.
it turns out to be the 17th +2 produced by the factory and appears to be the first customer car!! Originally sold as a kit, it wasn't finished untill 1972, hence the K plate.
Its almost finished, with just wiring, lights and dash/instruments to be fitted
currently on hold due to my impending move to a larger garage and house, I'm hoping to be blatting around the Northampton countryside by christmas!!

project Elan has stalled due to the new house re decoration involving new walls, a re wire and complete re plumb!!
As it sits, the car needs the wiring connecting up and the dash board fitting, some antifreeze, fuel and should be ready to go. The house has priority on funds and time at present, however as soon as i can I'll finish the old girl...

Hi Mark, just wondering, if the body is the 17th one produced and I agree it is early, due to the boot release handle, why not change the bonnet to the flat one on the original body shelland get rid of the much later stromburg/federal bonnet?
It is the 17th unit produced by the factory, believed to be the first customer car, 14,15 and 16 being press/factory demonstrators. Most if not all of the early plus 2s had the federal/stromberg bonnets, there is evidence of the original lime green paint on both the shell and the bonnet, I suspect it is the original one for the car, my mum had a '67 webber plus 2, that also had a stromberg bonnet. Interestingly the boot handle is of the "baby " Elan type, the plus 2 normally had an equal T handle from the hillman imp! The rear lights should be Alfa 105 GT Carello's instead of the later Lucas E type style lights that i have fitted (for now).Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
