quaife atb diff fitted and what a huge imrovement it has made, front end traction is amazing, still lights up the front end when dropping the throttle hard and tc off but it is pulled back into line very easily and your hurtling to silly speeds very quickly, pulling into and exciting roundabouts is the most noticeable difference, im very much impressed and totally transformed the car again.
Would have been my first mod running stock if the diff was availbale back then.
Vxl should place this on the option list!

Well its been way over a year since my last update and a few changes made to the astra, starting with a new tuner having departed company with Thorney Motorsport and making our way up to Huddersfield to DAP Performance (ex 888 VXRPC) to take the astra to another level and finish it off to how we felt was best for what we wont to use it for...........the intention was to get down to near on R26.R kerb weight, weighing in at 1320kg and finishing up up with 1228kg having removed unwanted excess weight, kw coilovers set and and matched with competition springs, toyo r888's fitted to each corner, 4 point harnesses and half cage, recaro pole positions, seat belts and pre tensioners removed, all bar the passanger and driver airbag removed, gear lever raised by 25mm and an asorted other bits and pieces carried out........has totally transformed the cars handling and performance ability capped with a new DAP software upgrade pushing out near on 300bhp & 330+ lbft of torque.....

Looking through the latest updates I was scared incase you ruined it...

Yet you haven't and it looks better than ever! biggrin
it was kept in mind to keep it running with the theme as much as possible and not taking it way over the top, less is more so to speak!

That looks fantastic!

The end result on the weight loss looks like it came from factory.

Brilliant stuff
aim was to keep it looking oem as much as we could and not added bolt ons so to speak

Your tuner move to me is a good one. I hope you are happy and assume you are now running an EDS map?

Nice pics. Must say that having got rid of mine I am looking at the Focus RS as a great and possibly THE hot hatch contender. Your car is looking good though Shane, enjoy it wink
Thanks mate, the move had been coming about for a long time, lots of discussions and suming up what we wonted to do, as for the software, yes its EDS based, Dave works directly with EDS rather than using Regal spec software instead making his way over to Germany to develop his own varient as he is much more track inclined with his tuning & developments, so we opted for a track biased map with a near 1:1 power delivery, its very smooth and progressive rather than aggressive, much more driver controlled rather than 10% throttle and full boost......It has finished off the package very nicely.

As for the RS, I like it and I don't, I just cant quiet put my finger on it, to be honest I prefer the the mk1 Focus RS! We did come to decision time late last year and considered the RS but then also the R26.R kept popping up, if the astra was to go, the R26.R would have been the replacement for me, its what I was looking for hence the changes made to the astra. Did consider selling one of our properties and going a GT3 RS LOL ........

If you don't mind me asking, when the transformation was made how many miles did the car have on it?
the astra is now currently in the 25,000 mile region (give or take a few miles)

We have capped it just shy of 300bhp (around 290bhp) and 340lbft of torque with a progressive linear throttle map...

At Brunters during testing it managed a 0-60 in 4.9sec, 0-100 in 12.6sec and 1/4 mile in 13.6sec.

We havent set it up for sprint work at all but instead circuit......will be in over winter undergoing a few more tweeks here and there and a few more kilos to come out!

thanks guys....

yeah I am really happy with it and exactly how I always wonted it to be both in looks and outright performance....still room for a few more little tweeks but thats more surrounding chassie/handling & braking but so far it does its job nicely on circuit!

Thanks guys

the plan had always been to remain subtle by keeping an oe look to it all and many state it could have come from the factory looking as such so the execution was right, we have no plans with anymore power so will keep the boost down instead looking at an additional 40kg to come out and attempt to get it just below 1200kg without having to go the bare shell look which I am not after!

I can certainly believe those figures, as you know I have always been one to stand up for what the car can do in real terms, all be it I had only the power but not the handling mods that you do. Glad to see a decent example maintaining it's originality.
the weight reduction and chassie set up has really brought about some big improvements on track.......

Been a while so though I would update

Well ditched another 16kg and upgraded a few area but still never finished........

Polycarb rear window - looks oem to many so thats a good start...
Replaced the AP 4 pots (343x28mm 2 piece disc) with Alcon advantage extreme 6 pot monobloc calipers & 365x32mm floating 2 piece disc...
Excess weight in the doors removed (speakers, insulation and bars)...
Passanger seat runners removed and seat bolted to floor...
Forge recirc valve and actuator fitted...

Now looking at ats competition alloys to replace the TD pro race and the KW struts/dampers will be getting an overhall during the winter months and uprated to clubsport spec internals.
