BMW E30 M3 - S85 DCT [RNGTOY]
Discussion
Still gathering parts - here is the Rogue Engineering diff cover.
Quite a massive unit. Has 2 "ears" so it´s stronger than the original one and it also holds more oil (double the stock amount) which will help with temps.
Additionally I will get stronger half shafts and drive shaft so the driveline should hold.

Some new parts for the build.
Couldn´t resist some used Evolve intakes that were for sale recently.
Also, some proper engine mounts from Vibra tech. Also a mono wiper kit from AKG + some reinforcements.
Now waiting for the mounting bracket for the DCT, once that is get I can get the engine/box into final position.

Im sure you are aware... but the S85 VANOS solenoids are now available new for around $150 each.
Finally things are starting to get a little more affordable for these motors lol.
Talking of affordable, I looked into the dry sump system you bought, but it was so expensive and id have to modify it to allow me to retain the air con pump so I decided I am going to retain the stock oil pump and just run a 3 stage scavenge pump and mod a stock oil pan.... not as good as what you have, but will save me over £5k lol.
On the plus side, i have someone who has full M150 base cals/maps for the S85 with a manual

S85 and affordable in the same sentence????
There is some progress on the project. Picked up decatted & coated headers:
Bolted the DCT box to the engine:
Attached the headers:
Quite a big piece for the E30 to swallow:
My friend still smiling:
In it goes:
Looks like the tunnel will not need any reshaping, swallows the box:
Smile was gone by this point since the hood would not close:
Took some adjustment & lowering of the engine, it now closes.
Next is to bring in some material and welding equipment to weld some brackets to the frame for the engine mounts to rest on. And fabricate a gearbox bracket, looks like the ones we have will not do.
Then the shell goes for media blasting.

I love this thread.
Nice work! Other than an s14 this is the engine I would most like in my own E30.
When do you hope to finish it by?
I know its a little way off yet but will you keep an OE looking exhaust tailpipe?
It is a bit the modern S14 - high rev NA with power that fits this century.Nice work! Other than an s14 this is the engine I would most like in my own E30.

I hope to have this car finished in 2-3 years. Bear in mind that the shell will be blasted, need to do some rust repairs, etc. Then build up again....
I will most likely keep the silencer I have now, it´s just a normal "OO" look.
Not going to do a quad pipe hack job.

Absolutely agree about the modern equivalent of the s14.
