Here's my beetle:

It's a 1984 LHD 1200 Mexico, fitted with EMPi wheels (I think? confused ), a side-exit exhaust, and it appears to have been lowered slightly. Goes rather well for a 1200 too....

Should have it on the road next week, after my old Toyota Previa gets sold..... smile
Wanted one of these for a long time - and this one came up at a very good price - so with Run To The Sun coming up in a few weeks it seemed the ideal time to buy one.....

As to the rusty bodywork, do I leave it as it is and enjoy the 'unloved' look (to match the new owner nuts ) or do I break out the matt black paint and filler for a full-on rat look beetle?

Over to you.....

nice bug and welcome to the world of air cooled.

either save up and paint it proper or leave it as it and get the mechanicals tidy on it. whatever happens stay away from the matt black. its been done, time and time again and virtually always done poorly.

oh and get yourself over to volkszone, loads of people to chat to and loads of nice bits for sale to burn holes in your wallet!!!

Nice! Will have to get some pictures up of my new 65 1200. Not sure about RTTS though as i've haerd it's full of chavs now might go to plymfest instead. Later beetles always look nice on the EMPI 8 spokes. Never been a fan of the matt black look so i'd leave it as a ratty original looker.

Woody

Edit- Gorgeous oval^^

NO! Post-war Germany is where they belong! Not by the beach, thats coz those damned hippies thought they were cool and adopted them as theirs! Damn them!

Nice beetle by the way! My Dad and brother used to have one each, brother sold his, and Dad still has his but it needs alot of work! He has had itt since he qualified as a doc in 75!

Last time I went to RTTS it was chav central which was about 3 years ago now. I'd been every year for about 7 years previous and always had a great time.

Anyway, nice bug!. Keep the body 'ratty' and get the mechanicals sorted etc.

Check the thread on Volkszone - they have spoken, the car shall remain original thumbup

Shame to hear RTTS has become Chav central, I was looking forward to going to what is my 'local' event. I might still go for one day, but I doubt i'll go for the full weekend if it is as bad as you say. Bugger frown .

Cheers for the comments guys, not sure how long i'll have the car, but I do intend to have a lot of fun in it.... smokin

RTTS show and shine used to have some properly cool cars in it, however last time I was there I failed to see the attraction of a bright pink Ka with a HUGE stereo in it and every RipSpeed cheap bolt on slung onto it!.

Its a real shame, part of me wants to get people with cool cars back down there to push out the cr&p but I cant see it happening.

I bought the bug on the basis that you couldn't really 'do' RTTS without a VeeDub/VAG product of some flavour (ideally aircooled). I know that RTTS isn't solely VeeDub anymore, but I had hoped for some decent motors there at least.

Oh well frown
