Haven't updated this in a while, not much has changed but a few things were done last summer for a track day in August:

In the process of getting the horrible tar like sound deadening up:

Bucket full of crap removed:

Bumper off:

Bumper with fogs removed and meshed over:

Also did a shoot for Japense Performance on the 4th of August, the car was looking pretty good imo:

So onto this year!

One thing I felt the car has been lacking in is a roll cage and from that we have decided to take the plunge and will be ordering one of these from Harry Hockly Motorsport:

It's going to take a while to fit, plus there are a few things to tidy up. There is a small rust patch on one of the sills, I have a new passenger wing to fit and some bushes could do with being replaced, so I think this year will be spent tidying the old hack up, fitting the cage and coming back stronger and quicker next season cool

Once the cage is here and work has begun, I'll keep the thread updated with progress.

I just realised I never did a write up from the track day on the 14th.

Probably because the days leading upto it and the day itself were hectic and I was sick of the sight of cars after!

Two of my other mates were doing the track day, one in his freshly built Saxo race car and another in his Mk2 Golf race car.

The Saxo had literally just been finished on the Thursday, the car had been bare shelled for a cage and re paint. We had spent the last few weeks putting it all back together, wiring, engine, suspension, brakes, everything!

On first start up on the Thursday night the car didn’t sound right at all, it was tapping its arse off. At first we thought the hydraulic lifters just need to fill with oil as the head had been off for new cams, belts etc. But after a good while running it was clear this was not the case. The engine let out a spectacular bang and producing some rather unnerving noises and then seized. We pulled the plugs out and looked down into the block, oh my that’s not good! It had dropped a valve and smashed the top of one of the pistons up!

We took the head off and were greeted by this:

But! We put a whole new engine in on the Friday and all was good again!

Saturday comes and it’s raining, a lot.

The track was slippery, more so than I have ever known it.

I was tippy toeing round on my first session but at one corner I lost the back end slightly, I corrected but by now was out of the dirty part of the track, the car drifted wide, my steering inputs weren’t really doing anything, one side of the car hits the grass, the grass is soaking wet, the whole car is on the grass now and I’m a passenger. I tried to be gentle with the steering, trying to ease the car around the corner without hitting the barrier, but I just clipped the front wing on the barrier literally just as it ended. The bolts that hold the tyres together in the barrier did the most damage to the wing. I jumped out to have a quick look and see its only cosmetic, the session got red flagged due to a stopped car on the circuit so I go back to the pits. Quick check over of everything and it seems fine.

In the next session the Saxo is out, but not for long, it blows an oil hose off of the mocal oil cooler and sprays oil everywhere, including all over the front of a brand new 10 plate white Clio Sport! It seizes another engine, end of day for the Saxo!

Then my mate in his Golf goes off on the same corner as me, only a lot faster and harder into the barrier backwards, one bent Golf! But we straighten it out as best we can and he does his remaining sessions!

The rest of my sessions were all wet and miserable, it really wasn’t a fun day, oh well it goes like that sometimes.

Haha, that was a fun days shoot @ Coombe! Still not been published yet but I've finally got the request for words through to go with the story so I expect it'll be in there soon. Drop me a mail and I'll send over some of the pics for your collection!

Yeh Combe is pretty good, it's handy as I only live 15 mins away.

Some more snaps of the car would be good, I'll send an email over, cheers.

Well the cage arrived the other day.

A quick look at the car and the cage reveals that a lot of prep work needs to be done, mainly the dash, wings and all the dash wiring (ecu / fusebox) need to come out!

The cage goes through the bulk head and into the inner wings, one wing needs to be replaced anyway so that's not a problem.

The problem comes from the cage's A pillar bars which route right where the ecu and fuesbox sit on each side, so they're going to need relocating.

As this is happening we'll take the opportunity to strip the loom back and only run the bare minimum of wiring as it's all sort of cable tidied up under the dash at the mo!

Going to take a while, but may aswell spend a bit of time on it and get it spot on.
