1993 Mitsubishi Colt Gti track car
Discussion
The standard engine produces 140bhp, no ideea how much its making now with the 4 branch and de-cat, Id be hoping for a bit more than standard though.
It goes round Castle Combe in 1:27 / 1:28 which is pretty decent.
In fairness the project has been fairly cheap, the car cost nothing and for the amount that has been spent I think you'd be doing well to spec somthing else up. For instance the brand new Gaz coilovers / Cyborg Gearbox, spare ECU and brand new Cat Cams cost £400 off of someone on the Colt Owners site, a bargain when the coilovers cost around £600, as do the cams.

Long time no updates!
Well the sun is out and its nearly time for the first track day.
Im joining the crazy people and doing the Spring Action day at Castle Combe on the 24th of April. Booked up track time in the owners club slots though so it shouldnt be too bad (hopefully).
No real changes to the car for this track day, but there are a few things on there way to me:
- New silicon rad hoses. The ones on there are a bit creaky, but Mitsubihsi havent been able to supply any. Until now no one made silicon replacements, but a guy on the POC organised a group buy and now I have some on their way to me.
- Short shifter with solid linkage bush kit. Should really firm the gear change up a bit.
- Evo 60mm throttle body. Standard is 54mm, so will be porting the inlet manifold to match. Probably wont see much of a gain, its more for future planning really as I really want to get the cams in at some point.
- Some more weight reduction. Im going to go for a smaller / lighter battery, cut the spare wheel well out and plate over it and hopefuly going to be making some polycarb windows.

Another great day Saturday, 4 sessions done with no major problems.
The rocker gasket, or more specifically the half moon seal seems to be weeping slightly so that'll need to be done but other than that the car was faultless, again.
Only got 2 videos as I forgot to put the camera in for the 1st and then it didnt seem to record the last one, but the other 2 are pretty good, proving how quick the car is by showing up some decent metal.
Had a bit of a scare when a Saab turbo went bang in front of me causing a massive cloud of smoke, the idiot carried on around the circuit for about half a lap, I did get that on video so you'll be able to see how bad the smoke was, I felt like Cole Trickle in Days of Thunder!
Vids to come soon.

I am not taking anything away from your driving but there where some right mongs on that track. The subaru for instance, it should have been a much quicker car but i suppose the little spin shows the skill of the driver. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbPNNoKyn0E
A very funny/interesting video mate, enjoy the rest of the summer with the car. glad to see you out in it.
Change of colour for the rocker cover in the Colt and starting to fit some new hoses:
Got 6 sessions booked up for the 12th of June at Combe, only a few little things to do before then:
- new brake fluid
- fit other hoses
Erm, thats about it!
I do have an Evo throttle body which is 60mm comapred to the standard 54mm, but I want to get a matched inlet manifold first.

Grr!
The 2 year old rad (albeit re-cored) let go on Saturday after refilling the coolant due to fitting the new silicon rad hoses.
Decided to get a brand spankers one from Camskill as I dont trust another re-cored one.
Also got some Mintex 1155 pads and on Saturday bought some AP600 brake fluid as the stuff in there now must have boiled on the last track day as the pedal went long.
Should all be ready for Saturday though.

Mixed day Saturday, car seems to be going well, I'm regularly getting into the 1:24s around Combe now with a passenger onboard. I just couldn't get Quarry right on Saturday for some reason, so I rekon without a passenger and a clean lap I should see high 22s / low 23s.
The front left tyre was absolutely mullered after 4 sessions, so it was swapped to the rear, but the tyres have done at least 16 sessions now, so I think they are rather past it!
I've got 2 more hardly worn ones, so they'll go onto the front for the 14th of Aug which is my next day.
In the meantime I shall be replacing the headgasket as it seems to be weeping on the front left corner (as you look from front of car), small patch of oil formed just under the exhaust manifold next to the gearbox housing after each session, not much but I dont want it to get worse. It's probably the original anyway and I was planning to do it over winter, just means Ill have to do it sooner!

I enjoyed reading this, one of my best mates is a particular colt fan boy, he has a facelift 1.3 which he rescued from a chav after his first CJ was involved in an accident
I don't suppose the 1.8 has the same almighty roar of the 1.3's with the induction? Bloody epic sound in my opinion!

The induction kit is quite rorty but its drowned out by the 4-1 manifold and de-cat when on the move!I don't suppose the 1.8 has the same almighty roar of the 1.3's with the induction? Bloody epic sound in my opinion!

Next track day is booked for the 14th of Aug with our local motor club, need to fit some new front tyres and I've been trying to get a bit more weight out of the car by scraping up the sound deadening but it's a real chore!
