1983 Porsche 944 - Time for some restoration
Discussion
Keep posting, I'm watching with interest!
Had a 944 myself from 2001 to 2004, have regretted it ever since. Yours is a great colour but if it were mine, would be tempted to change it back to the original black. Mine was black, when I considered changing it my service agents managed to talk me out of it!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I'm going to stick with the blue at least for a while as it just looks so good out in the sun and I'm a bit fed up of every car I see on the roads being a shade of black grey or silver so it's nice so have something to brighten things up a bit.
Getting more and more excited about getting her on the road now that the sun is out. Thinking of taking a week off work soon just so I can get the old Passat fixed up, back on the road and sold in order to fund some nice shiny Porsche parts.

I've not done anything to the car lately so I thought I'd upload some pics I took recently of various bits of the car.
I've just replaced all the belts on my other car and will be painting the bumper tomorrow so then it's off to get an MOT and hopefully be sold freeing up some Porsche money!

Haven't heard much about your 944 since seeing it on UKP. Not sure when I'll get the chance as getting the Passat back on the road and sold is going full steam ahead at the moment.at present I am restoring a 944 for track but saved it from the crusher

Do you mean the secondary fusebox or the main box? I've not yet figured how to get the main one out but the secondary one is nice and easy.
Hello mate
yeah the porsche has really just been sitting there has so much to do lately.
in the last week managed to get new loom in weld in the new bucket seats and get it started but not got about 5 wires that I know should be pluged into something but I have no idea where.
I can take pics of the wires and post it up?
see if you can find it at the back of your main one?
otherwise need to get new fuel lines mine are corroded.

Yup same with mine, contact a company called Pirtek, they have provided a few members of TIPEC with replacement flexi pipes which they're very happy with at much cheaper than the originals. Not sure when I'm going to pull the main fusebox off as now all the electrics are working I'm scared to touch it incase any of the things that sprung back to life die off again.
This project is currently on hold which is annoying to say the least. Got my old VW up for sale at the moment so as soon as that is gone some nice new Porsche bits will be on order and the car will edge closer and closer to being road worthy.
And some shameless pics of the car I'm selling as I spent hours servicing and cleaning it.

Not much to report but thought it was about time for an update anyway.
Firstly the old VW is gone and the new owner is very happy with it and I'm very happy to have some funds free for my little 944.
Secondly selling the old car coincided with my bank loan finishing which has freed up some extra cash to put towards this project.
So now I have had the money to tackle this project a bit more full on? Well not a lot to be honest, just been letting my bank account recover and buying a few bits and pieces I've been promising myself for a while now. On the Porsche front I have however bought some nice Chemical Guys carpet cleaner/stain remover which has removed an insane amount of dirt from the interior, the boot carpet however was so stained it was never going to become clean but luckily one in the same colour popped up on ebay and was purchased for the bargain amount of £15!
Luckily the carpet cleaner is also good at killing mould which is quite important as the car isn't exactly fresh inside after being sat unused for so long. It's still far from fresh smelling but the crap that came out was quite amazing.
Here's a pic of the interior now it's had some intense cleaning (still more required though).
There are still things to do inside including replacing the drivers seat belt, new gear knob, seat retrim and a new steering wheel.
Later on in the week I'm going to give Exeter OPC a ring about the price of some parts and book some time off work, after that I should hopefully have some brand new fuel hoses/pipes and a few other bits around the car.
Still not sure about the brake lines, have heard from some people that copper lines are fine and from others that kunifer are the way to go. What are your opinions?

Thanks for the kind words.
Sent Exeter OPC an email yesterday enquiring about a list of parts figuring it would just be easier due to the length of the list and the fact I was in a room with no phone and no signal but no reply. Will have to give them a call tomorrow when I'm back in my usual office and hopefully I can make some progress on the mechanicals from there.

this is going to look so nice when it's done, can't wait...GET A MOVE ON ROB!
It's hard to concentrate on doing my own car when you keep distracting me by buying more and more interesting ones.On the subject of progress I've been exchanging various emails with Exeter OPC today and have myself a nice price list (although not of everything I need) which is sitting at around £400 at the mo and that doesn't include brake lines, windscreen or tyres.
I had a feeling it was going to be expensive and that is somewhere around the figure I was expecting, just need to juggle a few things about and should be able to get the fuel system replaced and then it's onto the brakes.
