Yeah its got a rawness about it that makes me think it shouldn't be great reading but it totally is. I guess for me it's because it goes against the grain of buying an F car only to be expected that you are keeping it original, and paying the extortionate upkeep bills as Uncle Enzo wanted, and also not barrying it up.

The bit which holds my interest is how a guy that is not a seasoned spanner thrower is able to get hands on, is not barrying it up even thought its being modified, and then he stumbles across an LM race engine.. and in it goes laugh

This is almost like the infamous Chassis thread but a) it's real and b) it's not a windup biggrin

Can't wait for the next episode smile

Probably because I'm stark raving mad. biggrin

But there's someone even crazier than I am.

Check out this modified 348 that a friend of mine created. It keeps up/beats 360 Challenge Stradales. And that's without the Nitrous!!!

It's not an LM engine, but something he did himself. He also has a 355 gearbox attached to it as well.

Wow, is that a Kinsler setup in there? That IS the way to go complete with Motec M(ilitary)800. Then you get totally mappable everything. All you need then is Frazier to map it for you yes

i'm a big fan of taking this kind of car and improving it over the factory spec with parts that improve performance and will ultimately make the car more reliable and cheaper to own. Motec is infinitely preferable to the setup uncle f chose. I recall a 348 review in ccc many moons ago when their opinion of the twin throttle bodies was that it was almost like a bodge. Even if 0 horses were released the noise would be biblical :-)

I read about Andy Hill's 348. A miracle car, seems to have equal admiration from the "it's ok to modify" and the "leave it standard" brigade. smile

Any video's of said engine grafting?

I bet it does sound absolutley biblical.

RE: 'DIY' mods - at the end of the day its an engine, albeit twice the cylinders of the run of the mill 'hot hatch' that the majority of folk tends to tinker with in the back yard. Suspension and chassis modification is essential the same, if not slightly different in actual design the same concept applies.

If i had one - theres no way i would pay somebody to work on it. The joy is doing the work yourself [where possible] then being able to fully appreciate what you have done and understand how it works.

Moreso with an all singing and all dancing 9,000+rpm V8 singing behind your ears wink

You can see his 348 here at 5:42 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHY5rlwKnNo

There's also a clip of it with flames coming out the exhaust as well in the same video.

UPDATE on what's happened so far.

Received the engine last week. It had a few bits done to it by the supplying company who also originally raced it at Le Mans.

We're starting to get all the bits together now. New digital sensors and the M800 Motec ECU. Should have that all next week. We are getting higher grade race parts where we can and the plan is to turn it into a 1993 built engine with 2009 electrical/digital technology.

The suspension system is due end of this month.

I'm also looking for a 360 glass engine cover as well so the engine will be viewable at all times. Can't ehlp it... I'm a poseur!! biggrin

Pics of the engine as received last week. Will post up more pics of the engine when we've taken it out the crate.

Loving this car a lot!

Kudos to you sir for having the balls to modify a Ferrari, and very well i might add!
That engine looks a real peach and the fact you are engineering it to work with what the car's intended for (trackdays / road use from what i can read) It should be a real cracker

Surely there must be a better word to describe such a creation? To call this "modified" is surely an insult? Its no Saxo thats for sure. Fantastic reading!
