I have a friend with a 530 sport, havent had a chance to play yet but im fairly confident the ST should have the edge, mostly down the 6 speed i would have thought.
Have you tried yet? I don't think it's all down to the 6 spd, but more about the weight advantage and the lower transmission losses of the ST, being FWD.

Judging from what I have seen happen between an ST220 versus an 330i (lighter than 530i) I doubt you'd have any trouble at all humbling the 530i, especially from a rolling start...the STs are really under-estimated

£170 a month on insurance! F...... me. I pay less than that a year on a Lotus Elan Turbo.

I don't think I could bear to hand that kind of cash to an insurance co. unless it was for exotica worth £££££. I bought a new Elise aged 24 and that cost c£800FC IIRC.

£170 per month insurance is a crazy amount of cash each month on top of the running costs of a car like that and the owner 19 years old to boot...Good luck to you mate if you work hard fair play...Just seems such a high cost for a fairly average saloon...

I see where you're coming from, its not really an average saloon but its an average kinda car as in its nothing 'special' - over £2k pa on insurance is mental.

However, another one of the Fords that I truly like - I admit I have a thing for RWD and would never go back to FWD but this goes on the list with the MK1 RS and the Escort Cosworth. Very nice and a timeless design IMO - unlike the rest of the Mondeos of this era.

Congrats on having it at 19 - very well done.

Hey, sorry for slow reply!

What I saw happen? A race, 60mph to 120 approx. Two friends of mine, both good drivers.

330 (which was auto) lost by a tiny fraction, manual might have won by a similar tiny amount. But most 530s are autos plus they are heavier,

ST stands for Sports Technology not Super Tourer.

I'd sooner take a 1.8 LX Mondeo over any Vectra.
