What HID kit are you using?

As Im getting very tired of the standard halogen's on my 220.

What I saw happen? A race, 60mph to 120 approx. Two friends of mine, both good drivers.

330 (which was auto) lost, manual might have won
I asked around about this. I have got it on pretty reliable authority that the ST also beats the manual 330i. Not off the line but from a rolling start.

I've heard of a dyno centre getting a bhp figure for a stock ST220 that was higher than a 330i tested on the same day, something like 10 more

Well to be honest I suppose I was playing down the size of the 220's win (my BMW mate is more likely to come on here and read it so was being kind to him). To be blunt, actually his 330i auto got beat by quite a bit, these ST220s really go for it at high revs. Above 90mph the beemer was really getting spanked...10 bhp extra for the ST would not surprise. Can easily believe the manual 330 would lose too (but hopefully the E90- would be a different story!)

I would be very surprised if it (st220) could beat a manual 330 of any version. I tried a 220 and it felt light on torque compared with a 330i.

I'm really not bothered which is quicker, but if you'd like to bring your 330 to the next Vmax (keep an eye on the forum over the year) then I'm happy to pay to bring along an ST220. smile

Sounds interesting. I notice you have a sports exhaust. Is it purely a sound thing or do you think it has enhanced the performance?

Could well be up for that though. Seems nobody has ever done a proper comparison between these 2.

I have experienced an E46 325Ci beat an ST200 in a straight line race, and not sure if the 220 is any quicker than a 200?

Purely a sound thing, I'd be amazed if it added any power.

I'd suggest the 220 was quicker than the 200 - having owned both.

Yeah I think the ST220 is quite a bit quicker than the 200, whereas the 330i is not all that much faster than the 325 (at least not in the sprints, maybe in-gear flexibility is a different story)

re. difference between 325 and 330, it ain't huge on the road as the 330 has much longer gearing, my 330 auto pulls to 70mph in 2nd and it only revs at 6500, quite long imo so that's probably what hampers it a bit in a 'race'

to be honest! i love the st220 lots, think yours looks mega. i went bmw as i wanted rwd and auto, i'd of never bought a 325 though, not that they're bad, just wanted the 330!

enjoy it lots.
