Beautiful car I also guessed it was an M6 from the wheels.
It's funny how easy it is to tell them apart once you have done some research just before buying one.

The sidemirrors, no fog lights, quad pipes (obviously), carbon roof etc etc

Up until very recently I could not tell apart a 996 from a 997. Having done some research to potentially buy one, I can now tell the difference from any angle and think they are two very different looking cars.

gorgeous car, ive got a z4m and people say the same abt not looking to different from the others in the range, a few choice mods and shes looking awesome now!! a nice set of light weight alloys, nice supersprint exhaust system, gruppe m induction kit. job done!!
I really like the z4m's look and would have gone for one if parcticality was not an issue at all.
I would leave the M6 as stock as possible though. Even if it means it get's mistaken for a 645i.
Colleagues asking why the fk i went for an M6 over a more fun and modern and better looking M3 or a 911 and the only way to explain it is how people love some classics like the e-type or a mustang. This is what I got with the M6 I just love it in a way people love a classic car. Not for its stats on paper.

Bloody stunning car! I was soooo tempted when the prices seemed to tumble last year. I had a 645 a few years ago and loved it but I can remeber driving around thinking that it could so do with an extra say, 200 bhp!

How does the M6 compare, driving wise, to the M5?? Have driven an M5 an that was stunning, although it is big car it seemed to shrink around you???

i felt i needed to give extra front clearance when doing tight turns (the nose feels longer).
it felt a didn't need to coerce it as much to get moving as an M5 (in my M5 i either accelerate too slow or too fast from traffic lights). It felt more safe to corner at speed, but that could just be psychological and strangely i felt more comfortable inside... I am not sure if the driving position is actually any different but i could never dial in the seat exactly how i wanted it in the M5.

Yes it lacks 2 doors, a sunroof, handles in the roof and rtear leg room, but it's not as reviewrs say: less car for more money. It feels so much more classy than a saloon.
Another thing is the centre console. In the m5 i have an area of textured plastic below the the dvd slot and above the ashtray that looks like a cheap blanking plastic job and it cheapens the look massively. in the M6 the carbon fibre finish runs all the way down to the gearbox and looks complete.

Anyway I could wk on and on and on about it but to me, it's not 99.9% same car as people who have not driven either like to say.

Congratulations! I hope the two of you are happy together.

Out of interest, and I know it is hard to put in to words, but why a 6? I have always thought them the Uglier car in the BMW range. I know a lot is down to personal preference, and many people will slate my top 10 cars but I honestly cant see the appeal of this one.

Not slating you choice, genuinely interested. As they say, if we all had the same tastes, cars would be boring and I would be out of a job!

hello and thanks
As I wrote before, it's the type of love one feels towards a classic. I just think (apart from an iffy backside) it looks bloody great!
Ironically apart from the current 3 series saloon, I think the 5 series is the ugliest car in the BMW lineup and thought I could live with it for its other many qualities, but it's the bloody reviewrs of the M6 saying you get "less car for more money" that led me astray and it ended up costing me more than if i just went for an m6 to start with.

Filth. Want that, quite badly.

Given the early depreciation on these surely they're an absolute bargain at the mo, and so very quick too...

Right, back to work to earn some more pennies (and have a sly look through Autotrader)!

Best,

Alex

PS - could you post a pic of the interior?

Dont get me wrong Im a bit of a novice when it comes to M cars but BMW tend to be quite subtle in styling leaving it to the engineering.I doubt I will ever have the money to afford one of these myself so nuff respect wink

Picking it up tomorrow (what's the chance of me being at the dealer's door before they open? They are 60 miles from me smile)
So will be sure to post some more pics and from a more flattering angle smile

That is one lovely motor.

I think the current 6, especially in M version and in M specific colours will be one of those cars I'll always want. Just like the last version!

Cherish it.

I think they will be one of those cars that are unloved at first but turn into cherished classics later.

But then I suppose I WOULD say this wouldn't i?

Glad to see you went with the underdog, you do seem to be smitten! Good colour choice, and as you say, it does come alive in the flesh. But if I was buying I would still be torn between this and Indianapolis Red, thats a great colour imo (I think many would disagree!)
