Monumentally jealous here, so you must have made the right choice. Now, quick question if I may. Please have it derestricted and tell me if it will hit the mighty double-ton unmodified. I suspect it ight but would be interested to here the truth.

Well done mate, congrats.

Always liked the M6 despite what others can think of it's styling. I know I can't afford one but that's not going to stop me looking in the classifieds again now!

Have fun.

Edit: I found the one I want within a few seconds hehe

So thanks for all the kind words!
Picked the car up on saturday morning but found 2 things that i did not see/hear during the test drive.
When braking gently the rear driver's side brakes seem to squeek a bit, and having done about 100 miles since picking the car up the noise is still there.
Another thing is the middle (dashboard) speaker/tweeter seems to be incapable of handling the music on loud and gives out a very audible distortion, rendering playback at loud setting impossible.

Calling the dealer about these today but other than that all i can say is THIS is what I imagined the M car should feel like all along. Maybe my M5 was a post accident lemon or something but the M6 has only highlighted how low quality the M5 experience was. The m5 seemed to have flexed on every pothole, the dashboard looked incomplete and every gear change came with a clunk and a thump.

I am extremely, EXTREMELY happy with this car so far! A girl in a boxter stopping next to me and feeling the need to tell me how nice my wheels are whilst my OH was in the passenger seat was a bonus too smile

Anyway i could wk on and on and on about this, but instead i'll psot some more pics smile

Hi, will be taking it through the autobahnn next month but not having it derestricted. I have a feeling that 155mph will leave me concentrating hard enough anyway smile

Funny enough the M6 feels more civilized than the M5 whilst at the same time feeling quicker. Maybe it's the gearbox problems i had with the M5 but it felt really brutal in the M5 and I always felt like the car was very unhappy with changing direction or staying straight and level under all out acceleration. The m6 is soooooo incredibly easy to corner with I am beginning to wonder if less inertia and increased perception of the car being "happy" to go into a corner will make me overestimate its' a bilities one day... Even my girfriend said that it feels less jerky and i seem to be driving it a lot smoother even when I am having fun with pushing it.

Glad you've melded so quickly although I guess your time with the saloon paved the way...

Re the sound system, I must say that whilst it's ok ito outright quality (the HK job, right?) I have a feeling the anechoic properties of the 6 series' internal architecture are far from ideal and/or BMW spent bugger all time calibrating things: my B5 system sounded far more accomplished, rivalling the magnificence of the old Lexus LS430 set up.

Otoh, if you are listening to drum and barse then you deserve not just an imperfect acoustic delivery but a date with the courtyard and it's firing squad.

I think my brakes sqeal a bit but it's not exactly TVR AP levels of protest...

A lot of people assume you can't enjoy these things unless you're tearing tarmac asunder and whilst that is a redoubtable modus operandum for the beastie, there's a huge amount of simple pleasure to be derived from perfectly docile progress au blippage, during which you feather your way along stonewalled lanes, aimlessly drilling up and down the 'box for no good reason other than it is enormous fun.

Having said that, the swine still gets me every so often with an unexpected and completely random bronco thud but I'm sure this is purely a teutonic interpretation of 'character.' hehe

If you're 'bahning soon, please do contact DMS and do the decent thing: I promise you, the manner in which this thing hits 180 (where legal to do so) and then canters past the double ton, is phenomenal.

There is a nice long tunnel not far form where i live that I opnly discovered on sunday. I have to say, the thing sounds mental (scary mental that is) when changign from 2nd into first at 45mph!

I am glad to hear that the "bronco thud" is common. Would suck if i had been unlucky enough to get two cars with gearbox problems.

i don't listen to drum and base but the sound "imprefection" i was referring to is actually pretty bad. It pretty much sounds like a broken speaker from normal vollume, upwards.

I don't think I will have the time to derestrict it before my planned trip to be honest, thuogh I am thinking maybe an aftermarket exhaust nd a derestriction should be done once i had gotten used to the car...

DMS can come to you and it's not a time consuming job, iirc, although you may experience a slight latitude with the basic limiter, anyway. wink
