I always really liked the coupe over the fastback. You really dont see many around now so no wonder you are gutted you sold it, you'd probably have to spend more than you sold it for to get it back now.

What was the other one?
That'll be the GT/J base model, for more info see here...

http://www.mantaclub.org/archive/manta_b_late.htm
I believe they dropped the /J and just called it the GT at some point.

Also [pedant hopefully correct] all this talk of Monza blue - I believe the Exclusive blue was Dolphin Blue, Monza blue being a VW colour reserved for the top models in each range. [/pedant]

there was also the very special, very rare i200.

Gotta love the Mantas.

Love the car Dan - any chance of you throwing up a new thread with a few more details and pictures?

Cheers,
Rob

Good for you - Lovely car smile

I had a Cavalier Coupe for a few years (same car, different badge) and seriously considered a 2.0 Exclusive, but to be honest, by then, the car was a bit long in the tooth - My 1978 car looked pretty similar inside and out (aside from a distinct lack of add on plastic sills and spoilers) to most of the photos posted.

It finally died from a big end failure and a stoved in boot... I think I got £250 against a R5 GT Turbo smile

That said, it was a great handling car (simple RWD - enough to impressive a friend with a, then new, Pug 205 GTi) and had remarkable ride quality.

Would love to try a 400 or one of the 2.4 or 3 litre specials made in Germany.

Dan your red GTE looks superb, cant help but geekily notice some interesting details. The engine is the same style as used in the regular GTE (its the old Opel non cross flow engine) but a 2.2? Is it out of a Carlton, or simply an enlarged unit? And what state of tune is it in?

I do like the subtle mods, the rear disc brakes (pretty sure only the 400 left the factory with those! And I do like the choice of alloys, they suit the car to a tee.

As an F-reg that must be one of the last surely ?

Used to love seeing Manta's and Monza's back in the 80s and early 90s cloud9

Amazing car, probably the best Manta spec and colour combination this side of a silver 400.

As everyone else is posting pics of theirs i'll join in. This was my GT/E, i owned it for 7 years in which time it went from a low mileage original to a flame spitting XE 16v powered beast!

Sold it last year to buy a house. problem is you can't take a house on a track day..... i still think about that car every day.
