Hi all,

Just bought my first BMW, a 1990 e30 318iS. Always wanted a BMW since I were a boy, and got a cracking insurance quote for a 20 year old, so decided to upgrade from this:

to this...

So far, I'm loving it, the added luxury, comfort and general "BMW"ness of it, how every thing is well built, and of course, RWD smile
The car is standard, apart from HID headlights and uprated speakers, which were on there when I purchased the car. I've fitted my Alpine headunit (iPod, USB connection etc) which looks a lot better in the car than the one fitted and sounds great. No rust (none I can see anyway!) and the engine seems good and healthy, all in all, I'm very pleased with my new purchase, thats not to say I won't shed a tear when the Rallye goes, its been a fantastic car for me over the last 3 years, and I'm sad to see it go! For the moment, I'm enjoying having a relatively 'performance' fleet!

I'll update with pics when I've cleaned it properly and polished etc, and keep this as a sort of progress thread smile

Cheers for reading, here are some phone pics to be getting on with;

- HID headlights, traditional Main beam smile

- Guinness Slippers, a reminder to not drink and drive?

Cheers all,

Mr.Jimbo aka James

That is ace thumbup.

That's practically no mileage for a car of its age - is it as clean as it looks?

Must have taken some finding in that condition. Has yours got the optional LSD?

Cheers guys, I'm well chuffed with it, just investigating the central locking not working and the passenger window occasionally blowing a fuse, but other than that I'm chuffed with it!

And unfourtunately it was never specced with an LSD, so I'm going to get used to driving RWD first, then try and find one.

Eventually I hope to upgrade all the bushes to powerflex or similar, then lower it on Bilsteins, then maybe try and find a bit more power! - Oh yeah, I'm also going to look for new wheels when these tyres are dead smile Probably just 15" BBS...

Fruitcake (et al) Its in brilliant condition, interior has virtually no wear, paintwork is alright (will be better after clay/polish/wax) but its raining here so I've been left to tackle the central locking, an 'inside job' wink Engine seems sweet and it pulls nicely! Need to take a look at the exhaust as I think it may have a slight leak, but its still a LOT quieter than my Pugsport'd Rallye wink

The BMW is seriously annoying me with the central locking at the moment though! I need more patience...

Yeah, tried all of them frown theres a thread running on e30zone about it, I think it could be the lock ECU to be honest!

Two doors and a boot - don't worry just disconnect it for now.

Excellent car. Nice to see a fellow E30 owner, would guess you're on E30Zone too biggrin
Would recommend the polybushes, especially the subframe ones (well known fault)and if you don't mind the harshness, the M3 eccentrics on the front.

E36 rack is cheap but makes a world of difference to the feel of the car, along with a Z3 1.9 gear stick (Cheap too being about £25 brand new from BMWS!)

Ah just the advice I was after, I would like to polybush it, but didnt know what to upgrade to etc, I think I will get a z3 shifter, it's a lovely gearbox just a bit long throw smile

Also keen on changing the rack, though happy to leave this a while so I can change the track rod ends and everything involved, am I right in thinking a z3 rack bolts straight on, whereas the e36 needs a steering adapter?
