For Le Mans you could always buy a pack of whiteboard markers, have a little doodle then leave the pens by the car when you get there.
This does however mean that your car would be covered in an array of crudely drawn cocks by the end.
I hold no responsibility for the condition of your paintwork if you actually do this

Thanks for the kind comments all
Should have an update later, got the car back together with a new PAS hose from Pirtek, top job (and it fits amazingly, though not as we planned, it fits probably 10x better than we could have planned
Rob - if my paint was in worse condition I'd definately try that, my own take on a BMW art car, there was a guy in america that painted his E46 M3 with sharpies, the bonnet looked fantastic.
cheers all

Why not just unhook the PAS? Plenty of non powered e30s about, and granted the e36 is a shorter ration so will be slightly harder to turn at low speeds but I'm sure you're a big boy now and can handle it!!!!
A lot of the 205 guys remove (the marginally slower) manual racks from their cars and put in (slightly faster) power racks that they run unassisted, gives better steering feel apparently. I'm running an assisted powered rack ATM so can't comment on the feel myself, but it's a common mod and doesn't seem to concern people at all.
Much easier than fiddling with all those hoses, plus you'll lose the weight and free up some horses that would have been lost in the power steering pump.
Just a thought.
unhooking PAS is sutpid, puts more wear on rack, and the whole idea of fitting the e36 rack is less turns lock to lock, so getting it sideways requires less arm flappingA lot of the 205 guys remove (the marginally slower) manual racks from their cars and put in (slightly faster) power racks that they run unassisted, gives better steering feel apparently. I don't care however, as I'm just back from getting it tracked up Thanks to the gammon slipper at GSF who basically wouldn't let me buy the E36 track rod ends I required "nah mate, done plenty of 'em, trust me" - I'd not trust him to find his arse with both hands. I could have had it done by last night, but never mind.
Optimum tracking is 1.2mm toe-in, one side was 13mm, the other 15mm. it was a bit lumpy driving over to Kwik-Fit

Right then: a small (mainly E30 based) report on my recent Euro Roadtrip!
After faffing with getting the steering rack done before we left for Le Mans, I had a day to clean it before we left (thats pretty good, the previous two years I'd been putting the car back together the morning we left ) Anyhow, it got a nice wash and polish + seal before we left, and the obligatory EU stickers etc etc.
Arriving to meet chums at Maidstone services:
then some riff-raff turned up :
This made my day, if the owner is reading this, thank you so much! :
Then we got lost in france and waited for the others to catch up:
Myself and a mate shared the driving, so I larked about with the camera:
LeMans ensued:
Then, after a fun week of racing, it was time to set off to Munich. This was about 1100km, so 650 odd miles. Sharing the driving really helped here, being rear-ended by a dozy french cow just outside orly didn't, but the damage was minor, so we carried on (scrape on the bumper, dent in the rear valance, nothing major)
SO we left LeMans about 6am, drove down the Mulsanne:
Und arrived in Germany!
Had a lovely hotel, got pissed in the beerhouse with litre steins of beer, yadda yadda but the main reason...
Yes, BMW Welt, Museum and Factory.
So we looked round BMW Welt, and the museum, and the next day before leaving Munich took the factory tour, seeing 3 series saloon & touring models being made, it was fantastic, and you literally see it go from sheet metal to finished car, incredible.
Forgot to ask them if they fancied a swap, bugger.
Had to bloody rain didn't it!
Then it was onto the hallowed Nurburgring, after another 400 miles or so.
As it was an evening session (with testing for a vintage race in the daytime) and absolutely hurling it down all morning, we decided to go to the Ring Werk and take a tour of the museum.
Went back to the hotel to mentally prepare for driving such a famous circuit, to take stock, meditate etc. Actually, I just had a nap. Thankfully at somepoint it stopped raining, and the track had dried wonderfully
so then, it'd be rude not to go and give it some on the worlds most famous racetrack eh?
Managed around 12 minutes, which I was pleased with for my first go (we were only timing very loosely, not recording. I went out to have fun, which I did, not bin it! ) Mate had a go too, must remember to take slower friends along next time
A very friendly english biker offered to take a photo of us at the entrance:
I'm on the left.
Not quite sure why my headlights are green here, but...
Saw a lovely 2002 in the restaurant carpark later on:
and found some other E30's where we stopped for dinner!
Lovely touring:
Then went for a bit of a drive before retiring:
Stopped off the next day as we left, to watch some vintage testing/qualifying:
Then it was off to amsterdam, where the car stayed in an underground carpark for 4 days, sod driving there! Probably wise as I'm not sure either of us were fit to drive for the majority of this stay
Mileage wise, we did just over 2,150 in 2 weeks, and the car didn't miss a beat. It was comfy, mega-fun on the ring (think the lowering and lower profile tyres helped) and has certainly done me proud, only issues are the dent in the valance, a mucky boot and the inspection lights are predictably now on again! I think it deserves a full service and a bit of TLC now.
The E36 rack is a definate keeper, its made the car feel much more modern, and feels a lot more chuckable (the lower sidewalls help with this) It had more than enough grip on the T1-Rs but then we did forget to empty the boot before we took it to the ring...
All in all, a mint holiday!

Benny P; I think I remember seeing you guys, looked like fun arsing about with marker pens thanks for the compliments! I love how it looks at the minute, wheel refurb should see her sitting even prettier.
Yea it was mate, lol someone writing i love men on the back of my mates celica! lol some funny looks going through lemans centre with that on lolYea it'll look great with the wheels refurbed, i do like the oem+ look of it. Its nice to see a tastefully modified one. And the thing is with cars like that is that you always get the noing nod off other drivers 'as if to say nice car mate'.
You going to any meets like edition 38 or anything this year?
Ben
Thanks
Haven't planned anything really, show wise, my mates always go to edition, unfourtunately I've just moved back home with my parents, don't have any idea whats going on with everyone elses cars! It'd be nice to get out there in it, think I've missed a lot of them this year, and in reality I don't think its sorted enough, few niggly bits put me off going to shows in it yet. Next year perhaps
Forgot to add, I took over 500 photos on the trip, I tried to keep the photos above kind of relevant to my own car, but feel free to take a look through the others! heres the link to the facebook albums:
