Well its been something over a year now since I bought my MR2 Turbo, so I thought its time for a little update.

Aside from some issues with the alernator(now solved) its been the most reliable car I've owned.

This is a pic from just after buying it

It came with a Fujitsubo RM-01A cat back exhaust, a K&N Filter that had seen better days, and an HKS SSQV.

I then set about buying some bits for it

ARC Airbox

TB Developments 3" Flexi Downpipe

ST205 Chargecooler

Blitz SBC ID Boost Controller

I also bought a set of BBS LM split rims to replace the less than attractive 5 spokes that came with the car when I bought it.

Currently I've fitted the ARC Airbox and the downpipe, replaced the SSQV with a stock recirculating bypass valve, and fitted the boost controller.

I also have a nearly new set of stock suspension(standard shocks are billies) to be fitted, just need to buy a poly bush kit and some new drop links to go with it.

I had the car dyno'd at Charlies a couple of weekends ago and the car made 285hp and roughly 265lb/ft which I'm over the moon with for the mods.

Power vs Torque

Power vs AFR

Power vs Boost

As you can see with the stock boost control, I was peaking at 0.9 and then tailing off to 0.8. Since fitting the boost controller I can now hold 1bar until the redline no problem.

Once I've fitted the chargecooler I'll probably up the boost to 1.2 bar, and I may look into some form of ECU, be it piggy back or standalone, to alter that silly rich stock fuel curve.

With all of that done 300hp should be an easy, realistic and reliable target, anything past that would be a bonus.

Hope you like smile

Well chosen mods!

You'll love the difference the chargecooler makes, and 1.2bar will be a reliable every-day boost level, and you could use, say, 1.4 bar for special occasions and dyno runs smile

You need to try a bit harder to block out the reg number on the dyno sheets wink

Looks really nice. Not sure on the gold wheels though.. love the design, maybe in all silver?

I was running 1.25Bar without a chargecooler, and had no bother...

Cheers dude wink

Aside from a brief stint in a 1993 1.1 106 everything I've owned has hailed from Nihon biggrin

Did Charlie mention the Solaris ECU to you?
No, but I'm aware of them. TBH they are overkill for my setup, as much as I'd like to I don't see myself being able to afford to build a forged engine with a nice garret GT turbo bolted on in the forseeable future.

If I go standalone I'll probably end up going with a Link G4, that is once they've released their Rev3/ST205 plug ins. At the moment all I'd really like to do is lean off the fuelling in the top end so its around the 11:1 area, which an e-Manage would do for next to nothing.

Where did you place the Blitz bc? It's a shame these things aren't built into a single din surround to look like an oem fitment.
I havent permanently mounted it yet, for now its kind of wedged in the cubby hole:-

It sits in there very securely, but I will likely seek out some sort of stand and mount it on the steering column eventually.

Ditto, I didnt want a load of gauges strewn about the dash/a-pillar.

I'd like to put one of these in the spare DIN slot too

But since the pound weakened so much against the yen, the prices for them have gone through the roof.

Yeah they do, £451 though.

I paid £230 for the one I had in my old Charade Turbo, bought that via Yahoo Japan Auctions back when you got 240+ Y to the £.

At todays exchange rate and factoring in agents fees, delivery and customs it'd cost about £320-330 direct from Japan.

Yeah I was chuffed. I was making more power than people with the same mods as me who had already fitted a chargecooler. smile

My mate raced one of these on a dual carriage way in his new 997 Carrera S. He couldn't shake the MR2 from his rear bumper and had to pull over to let it past! I wish I was there, as the C2S seemed pretty fast when I have been in it! Bang for buck eh?! Best of luck with it mate.
