Gary, those photos are great and your car looks absolutely stunning!

After reading this thread and seeing the Combermere C&C, I'm going to try and attend the next one instead of the Wrexham and Chester ones that I usually attend.

Cheers guys, I’ve got another update to load in tonight covering even more snowy passes and the drive home via Reims old circuit, which as we know is impossible to drive past without a photo (or 20..)

I didn’t make the Combermere meet yesterday as I was still exhausted so didn’t get up in time!

Pano from half way up Grossglockner:

...and now covering several days here...

Of course what goes up must come down again and we headed off towards Italy.

Every single road was stunning, every corner another mountain and we entered the Dolomites just in time for lunch by a wonderful lake.

Many of the roads we covered were used during the Giro D'Italia and it was really obvious not only by the grafitti on the road, but by one side of the pass being beautifully and very recently resufaced for the descents, which was quite the contrast to the rally stages on the way up!

Passo Gardena:
I had to take this one as a collage of 20 pics as when I used the wide angle lens it made all the cars stupid shapes!

We were being buzzed by a drone at this point, would be great to see the photos smile

Then up to the truly amazing Passo Giau, I was last up as due to the altitude my 130bhp had become about 100 by this point and coupled with the gradient I wasn't going anywhere fast!

Plenty of snow on the ground, and an absence of air!

Another stunning day, the Alps are good, but the drama of the Dolomites is something else

Final big pass was the Timmelsjoch. Only opened to traffic the Friday before after massive snow clearance.

Truly beautiful, road trip of a lifetime stuff smile

We stopped at Baden Baden this last night then made the big push for home the next morning. Reims old circuit photo dump incoming smile

That looks like a great road trip, love the write up. I’ve got to say you seem a tad handy with camera, fantastic pictures.

Thanks all.
Last leg of the trip from Baden Baden to home passed by Reims so a trip to the old circuit just outside is essential for any petrolhead.

Despite a bit of restoration it still has all the character, and you can now get safely up to the top for some different angles.

Sorry (or maybe not! smile) for all the pics, it's just such a great place.

Back home now and the car working perfectly ready to go again. I need a rest though! smile

Amazing pictures of the trip, Gary. Im yearning to get back over to the european passes, even more so after seeing this! Testament to the work on the 911 too, that it made it there and back with 0 issues!

I’ll be off to the Pistonheads 25th Birthday bash at Bicester Heritage on Saturday. Should be great to finally see some of the Readers Cars machines in person smile

In the meantime a rare action shot of my car taken by a friend on the way to a local car meet:

Splendid... It'll be good to see the car up close and personal. smile

Are you going to be part of the static displays or are you going to be lurking in the carpark?

Static display as unfortunately they won’t let us drive around inside the hanger smile

Just got home after a long weekend taking in the Pistonheads 25th Birthday celebrations at Bicester Heritage on Saturday and (in theory!) the Boxengasse Porsche event on Sunday.

The Pistonheads event was well managed, organised and very well put together, so much variety in both the displays and the car parks.

Boxengasse may well have had some awesome cars there, but after over an hour sat stationary in lane with 3 miles still to go to the gate we abandoned it. Life is too short. If the venue isn't big enough for the cars you invite then scale it back or change venues. Not impressed!

Anyway, back to the decent event wink

My car was in the readers car section and we were all inside the hanger, useful when it threw it down half way through the day! Lots of great groups were displayed around the site, hot hatches, saloons, supercars etc. Nothing was duplicated which was great, other than 2 burgundy Porsche 959s!

And the biggest surprise was my car winning a little award, totally unexpected but much appreciated as my car isn't a 'show' car, it's just my car smile

Another well deserved prize.

I swung by a couple of times, you must have been elsewhere but it was good to see the car in the 'flesh'. smile

...and incase you haven't already spotted, there was a pack of ES Mints by the drivers seat rail. hehe

Yours is a stunning car and I still can't believe that you did most of it in your garage at home, it looks like you are parked next too another car that I like to read about Poppopbangbang's much modified 911.

Having read all of your thread I think you are being a bit too modest. Given how long you have had it and what you have done in that time that award seems very well-deserved. thumbup

Boring update! Nothing much to report since August, but I finally grabbed the chance for a drive out to Wales with my son in his S2000.

Never mind endless 20mph limits, the Horseshoe pass is now a 40… still looks great though!

No drama for me, but his exhaust half fell off smile It was loud enough before smile

Some minor winter jobs need doing, service items and a handbrake rebuild, but other than that just using it smile

Your son’s S2000 looks to be worthy of it’s own thread.
