Why the black sections on the floor pan complete with over spray?
This replactes the factory finish. They painted those bits black because they were visible through the catpet or under the seats..
If my ‘72 anorak is correct the inside of the luggage compartment and engine bay should also be black. It’s a light coating over the main colour. Most people don’t do it on a restoration as it doesn’t look great and I wouldn’t do it to mine!

Yes to the engine bay and under the arches..a very thin coat..but looks a bit crap..

BTW..the memories and pleasure you have had from your car far outweighs any pleasure I will get from restoring mine...so just keep enjoying it!

Boring update:

Box & engine oil change, off for a drive with guys from work on Sunday.

Filling back up with oil in the morning. Now time for a beer.

The placebo effect of a oil change is working well as the car felt strong all day.

It seems to have developed the ability to pull another 500rpm in 1st & 2nd, which is nice. Sounding sweet against the stone walls is a major plus of LHD in the UK

It's still filthy from the previous trips out, but not much point polishing before a Welsh drive.

I was hoping the highest road in North Wales might just pop us above the clouds but it wasn't to be:

With some fellow Pork from work:

It's probably due some paint when I felt the need to Photoshop the worst of the rust off the front spoiler... Next winter maybe.

It started raining as I got home, so it's managed to avoid being washed again. Maybe I'll just let it develop even more of a patina this summer as the state of the paint only annoys me when I wash it anyway!

Please stop posting pictures like that. ^^^^^ Otherwise, I'm going to spend ages looking for a 912/911 and it'll be all your fault! smile

Yeah that looks so lovely. I wish I was a bit closer to some of those roads, I'm thinking of doing a trip in the 996 to Snowdonia this summer just to get some North Wales action!

Much as I love my 993, I think I would love a pre 73 more but it scares me in case I got a money pit! Your car looks gorgeous.

The job for today was to adjust a very slight wobble on the LH front wheel bearing.

That was easy enough. So I thought I’d touch up the underseal whilst it was up...

However it appears to be a little late for that!

This is (was!) the front lower corner of the inner sill/bottom of A post.

That’s the next two years of my life and wallet gone then. frown

I’ve been putting it off for many years but the time has finally come to take it back to a shell properly and not do half a job. Not just yet though as it still needs to take me to Classic Le Mans!

Still one of the finest and most inspiring threads in readers cars. Massive undertaking coming up but the end result will hopefully be worth it! I look forward to seeing the photo from North Wales to join the series when it's all done.

I went to the Porsche 70th meet at Cholmondeley Castle just down the road from me, unfortunately my lungs reacted to the hot grass field like it was the gates of hell so I only lasted 20 minutes before I had to leave in order to avoid an A&E appointment. Shame as there was plenty of stuff to see, if a little modern biased!

Car ran beautifully, all ready for Le Mans Classic 1st week of July.

Then I take it apart...!

So to today:
The car is still in one piece covered in Le Mans dust unaware of what is about to happen...

I’ve just placed an order with Restoration Design which I think has ended up almost as ‘select all’ from the 911 parts list...

Do it once do it right.
Wow that’s an expensive phrase.

And I’ve not bought the 1/4s yet...

It would be nice to think the next time it gathers (road!) dust would be 2020 CLM.

But I have a feeling it may miss that, as other than a visit to a Celette jig part way through I’m doing everything, learning as I go.

I may regret starting this!

You may Gary, but we most certainly won't !! Good luck with the project, we'll be looking forward to the updates.

This will be be a big box. Or three.

P221B Parcel shelf 1972-76 LWB
P227B Parcel Shelf Support Bracket (1970-73)
P225 Rear lid hinge brackets (pair)
P225S Rear decklid strut bracket (1972-89
P260AL Rocker Panel Support, left 1965-73
P260AR Rocker Panel Support, right 1965-73
P285 Rear crossmember latch panel 1965-83
P236L Inner fender rear left, 1965-89
P236R Inner fender rear right, 1965-89
P280SL Longitudinal Member/Torsion Tube Repair Area, Left
P280SR Longitudinal Member/Torsion Tube Repair Area,right
P214 Jack receiver plate 1965-86
P212CL Outer Rocker Panel, Left (1969-73)
P212CR Outer Rocker Panel, Right (1969-73)
P250R Windshield post cowl repair panel, right
P250L Windshield post cowl repair panel, left
P255BR Door Hinge Post Bottom, Right (1965-89)
P255BL Door Hinge Post Bottom, Left (1965-89)
P280A Torsion bar end bushing 2
P213L Inner rocker panel, left 1965-89
P213R Inner rocker panel, right 1965-89
P218 Front half floor pan
P219 Rear half floor pan

I've ended up single sourcing (other than 1/4s) as:
A: I'm lazy
B: The RD panels look spot on, highly original and hopefully they will fit as a set
C: RD communication and discount was excellent (still adds up!).

I hope not to use the whole floor or inner sills. However I need the full floor edge front to back on both sides so the Dansk panel isn't big enough and the RD cost is the same for 2 full floor halves or two floor edges, so you may as well buy the whole thing! They are from the same tool.

I've tried to predict the 'whilst I'm in there' jobs other than for the front end of the car. Last time I went near that it was solid enough so other than redoing some 15yr old substandard repairs (mine!) to the bottom front corners under the battery boxes I hoping to keep that all together.

I've bought the torsion bar area repair panels and machined repair tubes and will redo my work from a few years back.

I plan to start at the back with parcel shelf, screen corners and rear crossmember. Again I might not use all of that panel as the area the stickers attach to and engine mounts are fine, it's the bit underneath that's mainly GRP.

I want to/ don't want to start this in equal measure.
