Shame you're still suffering with the AC. Hope it gets resolved properly this time.

How was Rockingham? Think I saw some pics on FDUK.
Where were the pics? I'm looking now and they aren't on the specific trackday thread....must be on another thread somewhere?

Hi,

Re heat issue, what was it like when it was a Rotary ?

Am I right in thinking that heat is directly related to bhp output or is it due to the location / surface area of 8 exhaust manifolds ?

(Probably both)

Have you considered wrapping the manifolds ?

I use a heat blanket (rather than a bandage) on my manifold as I have a supercharger mounted above it and it works very well.

I know it won't solve the heat soak on track but it should help around town.
A rotary; I have no idea how hot it was! It was a Type R so had two oil coolers, and no oil temp gauge (which may link back to Taz and his 'V8-with-no-oil-temp-gauge-who-is-a-happy-man' above. It also had a monstrous V-Mount radiator/intercooler setup. Intake temps less than 20. Honestly? It must have been happy as I ragged it senseless for years around tracks, and it wasn't uncomfortably hot in the car like it is now, whether on track or around town.

As for the manifolds; see above, and the last few pages - the manifolds, downpipes and y-pipe are all ceramic-coated.

How do you find the LSD in the Viper diff compared to the original Torsen? Has it changed the way the car handles?
I love it; its so much better than the torsen. The car has always been a bit 'snappy' at the rear; when it went, you had to be quick to catch it, and I don't mind admitting that in the wet, i wasn't sometimes. Now it progressive and controllable.

Bear in mind the LS2 had similar torque and the mazda diff fitted, so I know that this latest change is purely the Viper diff.

I love driving it in the wet on road tyres now, its comical, and not scary any more.

Hey Andy - good luck at the speed trials. I didn't check the calendar as I'm doing a trackday at Rockingham on Saturday. I would have popped along otherwise smile Next years I'll be there.

The build looks great - still following this thread regularly.
Let me know when you do trackdays mate, on FB or text or whatever. I was at Rockingham a few weeks back.

What number where you running as at the speed trials? because 2 v8 powered RX7s was very confusing ha. got some pictures of both so some of yours ha, ill post them up if you want? they both sounded absolutely mighty at the start line.
mine was the one with the greeen wheels!

i bought a set of drag slicks and they were fantastic; really hooked up off the line. I got a 12.01 on the final run, after a previous 12.06. I wanted an 11 so bad at that point!

oh well, next year......

"Possibly a wierd statement, but, err, are you Papercup?" hehe

A pleasure to finally meet you. smile We were parked next to you in the TVR. wavey

Those MT's really hooked up well, too well in the case of the first tyre warming attempt, that marshall took a few steps back every time after that. hehe

Slightly off topic, but what was the make/type of your tyre pressure guage? It was very good!
Hi BCA,

Was nice to meet some other PHers. A few others came by and said hello as well, my car is starting to get noticed a fair bit these days. Kinda cool.

The marshall was a mate of mine and hasn't shut up about me 'trying to kill him' since. Burnouts were impossible; those things just WENT. They were M&H by the way, not Mickeys.

The tyre pressure gauge is a......wait for it.......Halfords!

Worht mentioning that Rex is now the daily driver, dropping the girlfriend off at work and picking her up, travelling between clients. Its certainly entertaining as a daily.

Girlfriend has been asked how long she has been dating Batman....!

Its a copy of a Burnout one, from Shine Auto in the states. Fitted well, and was all flexy when new.

Rotaryart are the agents over here.

Side skirts were original FEED carbon ones, but i busted one of them up, so got the replica ones (still carbon) from Atomic Rex. Having had both (and still have one of the FEED ones in the garage) I can tell you there's no difference at all.

Great service from Atomic Rex on those, by the way. Hardly knew me, yet made and delivered them from scratch in 4 days so they could be sent to the detailer on the last day it was there, for fitting.
