Jay, vent looks good.
Cheers dude smile

Saturday i worked flat out on the car, got a fair bit done:

1) Fit red wheels nuts - ohhh yeah
2) Fit wind deflectors - sik y0 lol
3) Make Custom Pipe and heatwrap, this goes on to a large SAMCO elbow of the turbo and into a HKS Mushroom filter
4) Remove RAD, fit 2 new slim fans either side of the RAD.
5) Drain all coolant / water out, then run EVANS flush, drain that out then put in EVANS Coolant.
6) Heatwrap some parts up with new heatwrap.
7) Wire in the 2 new fans, into a switch on the dash.

The AIR FILTER setup was removed as it cause a big power loss!!

Well i had a lazy day Sunday, got busy with other stuff. I finished the grille pretty much on the ATR, and thats about it, Put it back on and gave a quick clean.

Next weeks tasks are to Lamin-X, Mesh Out Front Bumper, Spray visible intercooler pipe black, and the car is done. I put the center caps on to see what they look like but will be taking them off.

Next thing is to drop out the gear box, and look at options (because ive lost reverse). Sequential is going to be expensive, ive been told you can get them for £3500 from the US for B-Series, Max id want to spend would be around £1200. So i think i'll either keep my box, or go Prelude and get longer ratios, and build up using Carbon Syncro's and Gears. Im also going to put a header tank in.

Here are some pics smile

Cheers

Hi All,

Well i thought i better get an update here. Ive not done anything to the car over the summer, to be honest ive not really driven it as i had somthing else which also fun.

So my gearbox needs an overhaul, but it tops out at 180mph @ 9200rpm on 45profile tyres....Now some of you might remember i mentioned maybe trying to get nearer 200mph, as i didnt think it had been done in a FWD car let alone Honda 4 Door Saloon in the UK.

Well ive just ordered a Prelude LSD Manual 5 Speed JDM Gearbox which will give me gearing to get 201mph @ 9200rpm on 45 profile tyres. As said before im not going all out and determind to his 200mph, id just like to get close. It hit 180mph pretty quickly before, and i know theres more in it, maybe another 10mph.

Anyhow, Carbon Lined Syncro's are all on the way to refresh the weak parts in the gearbox.

Im also bring the car on the road for daily use. So the mega insane FX700 Clutch and Flywheel will be going, and probably a stage 4 sprung clutch and flywheel going in. Ive also ordered a Full Size Koyo Race RAD, Which means the slam pannel will need to go and i'll need bonnet pins. Oh EGT too.

Also adding a small 5" fan on the Oil Cooler smile

I think thats it really, it will go for a map check before i start trying to max out 5th gear again, just make sure its all right. Will see if we can hit the 200mph on the dyno first in 5th gear.

I was thinking about adding a set of custom brian crower cams, but might leave them out, as off boost the car drives around like a standard ATR and still gives me 30mph on a run lol. Its almost the best of both worlds under 4000rpm a cruiser above 5000rpm a mental mother flipper! smile

I'll post updates once the gearbox is done and shes up and running again, im starting to get excited just thinking about it! smile

God dam, this is awesome.

Just a simple question though, excuse my ignorance, you probly been asked this already. Why not turbo the DC2 or the DC5? id of though they'd be better starting blocks? Or can the ATR lump take the power better?
Cheers. Ive had a couple of DC2's and DC5's so i wanted to try something different without getting a Civic. The B18/K20/H22 when you start doing what i have done are all the same to boost really. You can get the power out of them. The DC2 just wouldnt put 500hp down. I do wish id done one of them now as you can kits for them, everything on this ATR has been custom made as you cant get kits lol. But the ATR puts the power down really well being bigger and slightly heavier.

Just found this thread and read all 13 pages.....

Total dedication and timeout for posting all the pics and engine build.

Really hope it breaks 200mph - although I know that's not the goal. Must torque steer like a fker in the dry - fk knows what it's like in the wet!!

I salute you dude. beer
Thanks. i really wanted to keep a diary of the build as it was the biggest ive ever done! In the dry its ok in 3rd onwards on full throttle on A048R tyres. In 2nd i have to half throttle, so its not too bad, just have to learn to drive it, and not be heavy footed. I think the smoothness is helped by the boost coming in around 4500 - 5500rpm, its really smooth on boost upto 9000rpm.

Thanks
Jay

How did that Sierra take 850bhp+ to crack 200?Is the ATR geared for slow acceleration/high top end?
That did it at Bruntingthrope i think, so over 1.3 miles or something. I will need a longer run up, hence i'll just drive over to Germany and use the Autobahn lol.

The stock gearbox was really short as it was to help 2.2 N/A be quicker, hence topping out around 175mph @ 9000.

Video here of when it had 475hp and 5 up.

Prelude box is longer and alot better for boosted application. Hopefully will be re-fitting the gearbox on the weekend smile

Car should be on the dyno for a map check in a couple of weeks i reckon. Then more video's lol.

Been quite a while since i updated this.

Time to start making my 2012 changes on this car.

New clutch plates from clutch master, the others were far to aggressive on the road. These have arrived.

Brain crower stage 3 custom turbo camshafts, these arrive next week.

Engine is coming out, these parts are going in.

Making a few changes to the engine mounts, possibly relocating the alternator, once engine is all back in and hooked up Oil cooler is being replaced and moved into the left wheel arch, Full size race rad is in place.

I removed the slam panel to make space for the Full size rad already, so i need new mounts for the intercooler.

Im also going for a new manifold, possibly top mount.

Then it will need aero catches for the bonnet to close smile - Remap and then all done smile

Oh the gearbox is in, and geared to 201mph @ 9500rpm. Im hoping to get to 185+mph.

Overall the car should be more driveable, spool up alittle quicker, make more power, make more torque (the most important), higher top end.

Looking forward to getting started next weekend smile

Anybody know what happened to this?
Good question. Life got busy so i didnt really touch the ATR for ages. Its just been in storage. I have just been to the Nurburgring in my brothers EK9 pretty stock clocking 8:55's by the 8th lap smile. It kinda got to pull my finger out and get back on the ATR.

Ring Lap in stock EK9 - 1.6

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedd...

So the ATR, the following work has been done:

Alan @ Solid Fabrication's has done this:

Equal Length Twin Scroll Manifold
3" or 3.5" Downpipe (cant remember)
Twin Tial 38mm Wastegates
Twin Screamers, these will shoot up through the bonnet vent to atmosphere (space issue)
Custom Single Peice Intercooler Pipe Work (no more hoses blowing off)
EGT Bung into Manifold
Custom Front Engine Mount
Custom Turbo Brackets
Intercooler Mounted
Custom Full Size Rad Brackets (Slam Panel Removed)
Koyo Rad Inlet & OutLet's moved

No i need to relocate the battery to the boot, get rid of any wiring and bits not needed, bolt everything together and get her re-mapped.

Previously she ran 505hp / 370lbft @ 1.3bar. Im not really after anymore than 500, however the drive of the car should change alot, more lower down power/torque, more torque midrange, peak should be 400lbft no problem. Might put a 600hp map on there for fun.

But otherwise thats it, im hoping to get her down to Silverstone GP circuit for a track day, well more of shakedown in November, then i can get an idea of it will be a good track car, if thats the case, cage, serious weight reduction, handling, will be improved over the winter.

Cheers
