Nice build, isn't that radiator a bit on the small side to be coping with the amount of heat your engine will generate?
My tuner said it will do fine, he has used the same ones on other Honda Turbo's with tublar manifolds that give of some serious heat. I might heat wrap my downpipe, but my manifold is cast so heat is minimal. It maybe half size but it is quite thicker than a stock one.

Cheers for the comments guys.

Worked on this car most of the weekend, in the blistering heat at home. Got a fair bit done inbetween the F1 and World Cup. My body is broken, my hands are cut to st, my hayfever is of the chain, ive sworen enough to last me a life time, but after all that, im happy with what i have achieved.

Intercooler pipework made up.
Intercooler positioned and brackets made, fitted
Samco (was ordered correctly after i drew it out thank god)
Front Member modified to fit intercooler
Turbo Turned to suit
Bonnet Almost closes (Needs some of the support beam removing and then will close)
New Clutch Master Cylinder Fitted
Radiator Mounted
FAN mounted on the Rad
Oil Cooler mounted
Removed Fuel Rail and tested Injectors fit (they do)

Next week, i will just tidy up the pipe work, get the ends flared up, and connect it all up, fit the T-Bolts. Mount the Oil Filter Kit some where and just pipe it into the Oil Cooler. Fit Injectors and Wire in plugs. New Magnecor Leads. Fit ECU, Intank Fuel pump.

Thats pretty much it. Then im probably going to send it of to Thor who can fit the external fuel pump, gauges, Turbo Lines, and map it. biggrin

Wooohooo, getting there.

superb! ok so maybe some better planning could have made some aspects better (or maybe not I'm no expert) but the fact that you're doing so much work on this is awesome, respect!
Your right, i do think more planning would have made my life alot easier, but its quite difficult to plan so much around a one off. Ive managed to over come the hurdles faced, only to more i think, getting the bonnet to close and the bumper to fit, nothing a angle grinder cant fix biggrin lol.

I know it probably doesn't matter due to the amount of boost your putting through it but I cringe at the pressure drop you'll be getting through that intercooler and piping with all those tight radiuses...
The radius of the pipe work is constant, at 2.5" throughout.

No I mean the actual bends themselves, everytime you go round a bend you get resistance to the flow and a pressure drop, as I said it probably won't make too much of a difference to you but I work in the chemical industry so I'm a bit of a geek about pipework and effciency of design!! It means you can use smaller pumps and therefore less money!
I get what your saying, but i think i should be ok.

To get say 500whp which is what i will probably leave it at, i'll need to run about 1.5bar / 21psi. Engine is built for 800hp / 10,000rpm, but i want to ensure im well within tolerances. Might see what we can get for fun on the mapping session for a drag map, but then just turn it down, and have good reliability.

Heres an update from last weekned guys:
Well i wasnt really in the mood to work on the car, just didnt feel like it.

However i got the pipework tidy'd up, a new piece made so one less hose connecting.
Ends Flared.
Fit Magnecor leads
Picked up bumper from my mate who trimmed down the inside
Still didnt fit so had to remove the flat bit at the bottom in the middle of the bumper
Wired in new Injector plugs
Looked a where the hell im going to fit the catch tank.
Fitted Injectors which were longer than that oe ones so the fuel rail didnt sit right, resolved that.

Need to spray the intercooler black, Will get some black mesh on the bumper too.

And yes the intercooler is off center, but i needed to do that get the pipe work the way it. Im not liking the look at the moment, im really wanted the intercooler hidden, the BOV will be on the Turbo side to so might be sticking out of the bumper. Ooops.

Samco on this 90 degree elbow will be shortend as the pipe work goes near enough to the bend.

New pipe made, straight then a nice bend and cut how i wanted it, saves putting in a join and does the job perfectly

This weekend is the last weekend i do any work on it, i just havent got the time. So i will be:

Weld BOV Mount to Pipe Work
Bolt up all Pipe Work and BOV
Fit Intank Fuel Pump
Fit Turbo Oil Line
Fit AEM EMS
Bolt DownPipe
Fit Oil Catch Tank
Connect Up Oil Cooler and Mount Oil Filter
Check all pipe's on the Inlet manifold are clipped on
Modify Bonnet - Remove inside bits to get bonnet to close.

I think i can get that done, then im sending her off for mapping and a few bits that Thor will take care of. I.e External Fuel Pump / Gauges / Mapping.

Its almost time to st myself. The figure guesses are coming in lol.

but... is there any reason why you couldn't turn the intercooler upside down?
I really dont like that 180 degree pipe work on the right hand side, and if those entry/exit pips were poking upwards you could maybe get better routed pipes onto them?
lol. I tried that but it didnt fit/work at all like that.

I was going to ask the same thing. It's a shame the I/C inlet/outlet are not at straight out at the side or pointing up.
Cracking build so far - and I look forward to seeing the mapped numbers soon. thumbup

I was thinking that, but its worked out pretty good. The hoses are good for high boost pressures, i know i'l loose abit of pressure through them, if i have to , i'll get a pipe made up for the U bend.

Thats the best i can get the Turbo, i cant point it down because of the alternator. So if the intercooler pipes were straight i would have to take pipe work to the right, re-located the washer bottle, bring it up then some how get it to connect to the Turbo. I think the way ive got it is good, and the best way i could have done it. It is a really short run from the Turbo to the intercooler.

So am i, althought i hate seeing my cars on the Dyno, always have a fear of boom.

This weekend i will work my ass of on it and get as much done as i can. Im really close, i cant feel it. I just need time, as i work away during the week which is well annoying.

Cheers for all the comments.

Thanks
Jay

come on then! you mention in another thread that this 700bhp car is finished!
where's the update mr ferrari boy? wink
You been stalking me? :P

No i mentioned its nearly finished. 2bar pressure we worked out we could see 700whp, but thats alot. lol. 1.5bar should see 500whp, thats enough? lol.

I need this weekend on it solid to do a few bits then she can go for mapping. However my dads called and said he needs a hand on Sunday frown

I need to spray the intercooler and blow off valve black, oh they look awful. I will also get some black mesh infront of it all. Try and get some of the sleeper look back. Althought its gone abit hardcore, function over looks. lol.

On Saturday i had about 6hr and put in the Turbo Gaskets, New Adapter bolts. Adjusted the pipe work, Set up the oil cooler. I looked at it and kinda felt emotional, dunno why, just felt like all my hard work has paid off. I wasnt supposed to touch this project but a change in tuners circumstances ment i had to do alot, its not about the money that got me, i think the hard work, decidcating my weekends to it, 10hrs on Saturday, Sunday, as i live away during the week (work).

I cant wait to have my weekends back, and not have to stress about the car etc. Boost Controller / Oil Pressure Gauge / BOV, my bro is gonig to hook up for me during the week as im away. Then next week, mapping biggrin

Im dropping her of this weekend for a few bits and mapping hoping to pick her up next weekend.

I will be discussing adding a swirl pot and then going for a map of "what we can get until the injectors max out" per say. We reckon that could be 750hp. My tuner who is my very very good friend, like family (built the engine and spec'd everything with me" told our close friend that engine and turbo could make 1000hp but not to tell me as im not right in the head.......well my mate told me today.......now i want a swirl pot and to turn up the boost on the bad boy biggrin

"Lets see what she gots"

biglaughhehe im sure i just read that your going to may have a 1000hp fwd car soon...

biggrin - It wont run 1000hp. Im pretty sure the injectors will max out before then. There 1000cc, for 1000hp im pretty sure 1200cc's would be needed. I was just told the engine and turbo could push 1000hp.

Im going to speak to the company im taking it to on the weekend for mapping and a few bits, to maybe add in a swirl pot and try and turn it upto 2.0bar and see if the injectors are ok at 750hp. And go from there biggrin

I do get excited and carried away, but i do want a fast 1/4. CPL have a 9.9second in FWD EP3. If i get into alot, im going to have to take of my big brake kit, get 15" wide front wheels and expanding drag tyres. Then forged drive shafts, carbon gears / syncro's and have a gearbox rebuild, stronger clutch cylinder and im pretty sure with it stripped out and setup for drag i could get a good time. But then i cant use it on the road, so trying to get a good balance is going to be difficult.

After reading through the thread and seeing a turbo that size in a FWD ATR, you finish off with a statement like the one above... laughlaughlaugh

Hats off to you mate - that'll be a monster once it's running!!
I know, laugh I make myself laugh, this is supposed to be my everyday car. biggrin

Just wondering if you've told your insurance company yet and if they've laughed their tits off?

I can just picture the conversation now...

Mr K12: I'd like to add some modifications to the policy.
monkey in call centre: Sure sir, can you list those please?
Mr K12: mainly brakes, suspension, wheels, oh and a rather large turbo conversion.
monkey in call centre: Okay sir, and how much of a power increase is the turbo?
Mr K12: oh, ummm, errr, around 350% of the original car.
monkey in call centre:

Then followed by much teeth sucking and bending over. hehe
hehe

Thats pretty much how it went. lol. But its insured, the soreness has almost worn off! hehe

Not yet mate. Its still away for a few bits and mapping. The company that have it are quite busy because of Ten Of The Best this weekend. They are flat out. Hopefully they will start on it next week.

It feels nice not working on it on weekends and actually doing other stuff biggrin

Not yet Adam.

There really busy down there, but have made a start on a few bits.

Ive left the Swirl pot, lines, AEM fuel rail, controler, x2 270inline pumps etc out for now, as the 255 pump should make 500hp.

I just want to get some miles in it, then in the winter if i need more power i can send it back and go for the fuel system which can push 900hp, i will have to change my 1000'cc ID HI Injectors to get more than 620hp as thats them at 90% duty.

I remember you were interested in the wastegates, and 2 wastegates are going to be controlled by a single AEM boost controller, this Turbo is hard to control ive been told, and if it creeps its going to want to creep by half a bar, it needs to be controlled very well. Once its done i'll post pic's so you can see how its hooked up, and your first ever visual over a setup using both smile

I just want to drive her, only abit of good weather left no doubt.

Im away on holiday next week so i think i'll be picking her up when i get back in September i think.

Hi Guys,

Sorry ive not been on in a while, been busy busy with work.

Ok she is still at Artech/Eurospec. They have been really busy and waiting on a few parts from the US took some time, and the new manifold i sent them was slightly different to the old one, and the ECU wouldnt start the car, and i had the harness conversion at home, doh! So i got this posted down to them.

Anyways long story cut short..hehe...They started it up on Saturday for the first time with the Turbo on. Wooohooo.

However where there is a positive there is a negative, the Oil Pressure Gauge sensor was faulty, so a new was should have been put in today or tomorrow. Romain is eager as much as i am to get her on the Dyno, i spoke to him when i first started this project so he has been waiting a year also!

Dyno tomorrow / Wednesday. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Will update with figures as soon as i get them smile

Cheers
Jay

Here are some pics when i took the car down to them smile (borrowed the nissan of my mate)
