I will try that at the weekend. Getting prices at the moment to fit a heater matrix as ours is blowing cold air
airlock in the cooling system? easy to fix if it is.

A valve is fitted to recalled cars, which is now often seized due to age. From memory it's just to the right/rear of the head. Not much to replace, or you can junk it (not sure if I'd do that, might replicate the recall issue).

Aha! The old heater matrix bypass valve.

Mk2 golfs had a habit of bursting their heater matrixes (matrices?) spilling hot coolant on your feet. VW fitted bypass valves to stop this happening - they clog and get stuck shut.

Simply remove the bypass valve and replace with 2 short lengths of copper pipe (all the MK2 GTIs I have had have had this done).

Be sure you are happy with the state of the heater matrix (behind dash) before doing this though! You might want to replace it if in doubt.

These valves are the first thing to check if a Vw of that age is blowing cold!!

Don't try doing it yourself though unless your some kind of unrelenting masochist. It's an issue that was passed onto the Corrado afterwards and I helped my mate do his after it popped.
My god, the worst 12 hours I've ever spent with a vehicle.

The bits cost me £70 from German and Swedish. I git a mate fitting it but can see it being £50 to fit, maybe more

Just paid for a mint head lining and getting it delivered. Got my eye on some brand new bbs centre.caps which will finish the reconditioned wheels off. Looking into some suspension as well for her.
Currently looking into buying another m3 as I am possibly getting taken on with a perm contract at work
