Here are our cars, neither are perfect, but both good examples of uncommon cars.
The Jetta Gti is mine, a 87 8 valve Gti, I got it with 38k on the clock, and is now on 88k. Its midly tuned and has a rolling road print out of 130 bhp. Was totally standard when I got it, and I havnt wanted to stray too far from that. Since the pics were taken, the wheels have changed to some oem VW wheels from a Corrado/Rallye, and the front seat are now Corrado electric leather Recaros.
This is her car, a 89 Corrado G60. Completely standard engine wise, but lowered 40mm and on a set of Borbet alloys, although these have just come off.
Little changes are on the cards for the Corrado, up the boost a little and get some small bits of bodywork done. The Jetta however, shall be on the receiving end of a G60 engine conversion very soon, only the charger will be swapped for a nice turbo instead

Borbets really suit the Corrado.
How much are G-lader rebuilds these days? I've been looking at a G60 but rather put off by 30k mile supercharger rebuilds seen as most of them are running 68mm pulleys. 3 of them and you might as well drop in a Lysholm instead!
I have often thought a lot of tuners use these low figures to get people to have rebuilds every couple of years when really it only applies if you have a 60mm or smaller pulley an rag the hell out of it all day long. A 68mm pulley is spinning a G60 at 85% of its full capacity and not putting massive amounts of strain on it compared to being run at 65% on standard pulley. How much are G-lader rebuilds these days? Even at 30k intervals that is 3years for most people to have to spend £350 or up to £600 if you want a R1 full blend with masses of porting and polishing. You pay that figure once then in the future just get the APEX seals replaced which are sub £100.
Most of the charger failures i have come across are from lack of oil changes and corroded oil pick up pipes that starve the charger - no amount of rebuilds will prevent that. On VWVOrtex there are several G60s that are close to 200,000miles on stock chargers without rebuilds!
The way i look at it i can do 3 charger builds for the cost of Cam chains/tensioners and piston rings on a VR6 and run the same power an better mpg
cheers for the kind comments guys, they both need a pistonheads smiley really too
I have got some pics of the G60 on smaller wheels, they are 15" 'estoril' alloys found on the later corrado 16vs that are on it now, painted metallic black.
The charger has just been rebuilt by jabbasport, at a cost of £300 for a standard rebuild. The rebuild intervals for this are 50k or thereabouts, stage 4 is 30k, then r1 is something like 15k
The Jetta is quite a rare car, one of only 70 GTi's made in silver, and this one is registered as a GT, which was the forerunner to the GTI, only when mine arrived in the UK, it was badged at a GTI. I cant wait to get some more power into her, hoping for around 220bhp from the G60 turbo lump thats going in, which should be enough in a fairly light car

one other observation, MANUAL window winders!!! fffin hell someone was a tight ass when it was new. Cant recal ever seeing even a early F plate with manuals in it.
dave
Ha ha, yes, I know, the thing is, VW specced electric windows as standard apart from the very very early ones, yet this one has manual windows, and so did her last one, which was an H reg, that one didnt have a sunroof either. My old Corrado a couple of years ago was also an H reg, and that had all the electrics. dave
Another strange thing is the interior, its as it left the factory, but look at the sides and backs of the front seats, they are vinyl! Never seen that before either
This one is quite interesting really

Love them both mate, nice to see good quick VWs and Jettas are close to my heart. Interestingly, my Jetta GTI 16V was registered from new as a Jetta GT. This was brought up with the DVLA at the time and subsequently but no-one seemed interested in correcting it.ETA: What's the red badge?

bit of an pdate, have just ordered a SLS tuning chip, smaller supercharger pulley and belt for the Corrado. This should take power to around 190 bhp.
Thanks for all the kind comments, its nice keeping two old vws alive and in good condition, cant wait for the Jetta to be a hel of a lot quicker once the g60 tubro goes in
