At university at the moment and the Sainsbury’s I work at is 5 miles away with no decent bus route leading me to needing a car. Cannot bring the mini as I don’t want to leave it on the street and also due to the fact it is not finished yet meaning that I needed some cheap transport. Set a budget of £1500 and went out to look for a small car.
In the end I got this and i believe it was a decent buy. Car is a 2001 Ford Fiesta 1.25 Ghia with 89k miles and comes complete with a/c, electric windows, cd player, central locking which happily all works. The main draw for the car is the fact is has only ever had one owner from new and has a complete service history and a load of receipts and appears to be in superb condition with no rust to sills etc... they can suffer from. In the end I paid £1200 with 12 months Tax and MOT which I am very pleased with. I have a couple of small plans for it I am going to put clear indicator lens on the side, de-tango the front headlamps and put a light tint on the back 3 windows I may then lower it 30mm and uprate the standard speakers but apart from that it is staying standard as I want to keep spending to a minimum.
I pick the car up next weekend so should be able to get some better pictures then.

Nice one, decent cars, the 1.25 faitly nippy and very little in it between the 1.4. Worked as a driver for a ford dealer with a rent a car business whilst at uni and used to use thoes regularly. Not sure I'd bother lowering it though but each to their own.

Don't let the rest of PH see this, it'll ruin their 'all students these days own ferraris' rants.

Looks like the perfect uni motor

Thanks i do look a bit flash atm having two cars and a scooter though but it all due to buying and selling stuff and working at sainsburys since i was 16 get a better sense of achievment I find although i must say my dad is paying for my university accomidation as my loan would not cover it. The plan is I am going to keep this for a couple of years and then look at upgrading to something nicer for my gap year when i gave a couple of years no claims bonus. The mini should be done by christmas and going to use for spring and a bit of summer and they try and sell it on for about £3-£3500 as I do not have a garage for it and therefore cant really use it a lot due to unversity and stuff.
My aim is to be able to afford a new shape fiesta zetec - s hopefully they will be around £6500 for a decent one in a couple of years as the sale of both cars and my scooter along with some saving from work should allow me to be able to afford one. I will also look at getting a project mini to do up when university is over and I have time to use the car as coming to terms that i may have to sell it within a year breaks my heart.

Pfft, a 2001 Fiesta?!
Mine was a knackered old 1993 Peugeot with a rusty roof and all the lacquer flaking off (still is!).
Some people just don't know they're born...hehe

My uni 2CV was far cooler than this, until the MOT station condemned it laugh Nice motor for the money, good buy.

Well picked it up and all is going well. Done 600 miles now and not had a problem with it at all smile It’s fairly nippy off the mark but on the motorway it takes ages and ages to build up speed seems everything pulls away from me if slow to 50 due to traffic and then speed up again when it clears. Learned that momentum is the key but it does eventually sit at around 80/85 quite happily it is just a chore to get to it so annoying when people just cut in front of you etc... on the motorway. Done a couple of minor modifications just fitted clear lens and de-tangoed the front which help smarten it up. Also up-rated the factory speakers and changed the head unit think that will be it. Plan is to upgrade to a zetec s or maybe a clio 172 if I can afford the insurance next year but for now I am rather pleased with my purchase smile

Cool. Don't bother tinting the windows, though, it looks fine how it is.

I would steer clear of lowering it, the bushes wont last long if you do (unfortunately I speak from experience banghead).

Nice little run around though.

+1. Spend the money on beer and women instead of some otherwise ordinary hatchback wink
I agree, use it for what it is and save your money.

Not going to tint the windows now anway's its over £100 to get it done properly as using the tint film makes it look crap on the back window as it's almost impossible to perfect. With regards to saving money I am not too fussed with my rent paid and loan/job I have about 10k a year to spend on food and beer which even I would struggle to do so going to try and save 4/5k a year from it.
As said though this wont be here for more than a year as to be honest it is simply far too slow for me even my 1 litre mini seems like it is faster...
But I can imagine with some more power these would be a fantastic little car the gearbox is one of the best I have experienced and it really is a laugh in the corners. I think a zetec - s will be on the cards next year smile
