Picked this up a couple of weeks ago, but unfortunately due to the snow I haven't spent much time in it!

I wanted something fun that I could use to commute in and play in at the weekend. We have a Cmax for the practical stuff so a 2 seater with a small boot was fine. Being used to E36 BMWs it had to be RWD, I just can't take to FWD cars they don't do it for me. I like the idea of the engine being situated behind my head, with the induction kit on it makes a nice sound above 4K, in which I can drown out the Mrs shouting at me biggrin

This came with almost FSH, has done 125K and all for a bag of sand. My only niggles so far are:

1) The drivers side indicator has a piece missing which will be replaced soon.
2) There is a strange interference noise coming through the drivers rear speak when driving, I suspect a wire needs re-routing or something. I will investigate when I change the headunit.
3) The electric window switch is a bit tired. Can take a couple of attempts to go up, but this will be easily sorted. The beauty of cars of this age is that most parts can be had from the breakers for a few quid.

Other than that, very happy with the car. I won't be throwing loads of money at it, just keeping it clean and maintained. I have been told the cambelts on these are non-intrusive ie when they snap they don't take the valves with them! Is this the case or should I fit one as there is no record of one being fitted recently?

With regard to your cambelt question, i've never done it on an MR2, but every second hand car me or my family has bought, we ALWAYS change the cambelt unless there is some sort of proof it has been done recently.

Cheers mate. Yeah I had a bad experience with a snapped cambelt earlier this year so I will more than likely put one on anyway.

Managed to spend a couple of hours cleaning today and took a few pics. Scuffmaster kits been ordered so sort the cracks on the drivers seat:

Great cars, especially in the summer biggrin

As for the timing belt, I believe it is a NON-interference engine so not so worrying should it snap..

Nice looking MR2! Always fancied one! Heard the rev 2's are abit twitchy from lift off oversteer though?

Ah looking lovely ! just got rid of my Rev 2 and already missing it frown

The red paint work looks in very good condition for a rev2, does it have the usual spoiler bubbles ?

Thanks guys,

To be honest I haven't driven it hard enough to comment on lift off oversteer, the roads are still a bit cagey so I've been taking it reasonably easy.

Yes it's in really good condition for red, the bonnet needs painting at some stage as it's been sprayed and not very well! Spoiler is absolutely fine, no bubbling to speak of cool

Bought myself a Scuffmaster kit to try and sort the tired looking seats out.

Very impressed! Well worth the money, easy to apply and the results speak for themselves.

Very nice. Re. the handling question - iirc the rev 2 had revised rear suspension and wider rear tyres (225 instead of 195) so wasn't as naughty as the earliest cars. HOWEVER... get it well shod. I bought a rev3 n/a with crispy (probably five year old) 'Wanli' rears on it. Didn't make it to the tyre garage. (admittedly there may also have been an issue with the nut holding the steering wheel...)

What are these like on fuel? I.e how many miles to a tank with mixed driving.

Thinking about getting one of these and coming from a 2.2vtec engine anything over 250 miles to £58 is a bonus.

I used to get around 250 miles to £40 of petrol (when it was around £1 a liter)

Fuel consumption isn't what I expected in all honesty. I seem to be averaging around 26mpg, which is a combination of town driving, bit of B road blasting and motorway cruising. Not as efficient as my old BMW 328i which is heavier and has a bigger lump confused However this cold weather doesn't help, it sits on the drive warming up for 5-10 minutes each morning, then the choke is on for longer than it would be in warmer temperatures. To be fair though, if I wanted economy I would have bought a diseasel!

When was the last time it was serviced?

26 average is far too low for an NA. My Turbo averages 25/26.

Not really, it's completing zero-mpg when idling on the drive remember!

Great car and great job on the seats btw. Any info on the product used and where purchased?
Cheers.

Love it! My old man had an identical one of these new back in 94 I think.

Maybe it's an itch I shall scratch sometime.
