My RX-7 on Hardknott Pass
Discussion
Now that all the snow has dissappeared I thought I'd take the Mazda for a run over Hardknott Pass. The car did pretty well, did had a few dodgy moments though. I think the torsen rear LSD has had it, I was getting alot of wheel hop on the tight hairpins, also the gear ratios meant on the steep bits I was either bogging down or spinning the wheels, had to resort to 1st gear for most of the acsent. Couple that with the constant catching of the front spoiler and bashing the underside a few times I'll probably not take it over there again, was a fun drive though!
I've only had the car a couple of months so I'm just slowly getting it how I want. Got rid of the drift style diffuser it had and fitted the standard spoiler (needs painting still), just needs either some standard wheels or some BBS LM and I'll be happy with the exterior.
Ground clearance is an issue:
Could do with a bath now!

Cheers for the comments guys.
Fear not the spoiler will indeed be painted red. The wheels are going to be replaced with either OEM 17" 5 spokes/BBS or a set of 17" BBS LM if I can find a set in the right fitment.
Other than that I have a few things I want to sort out on the mechanical side, mostly reliability mods, I'm quite happy with the performance for now.

I went up Hardknott with a mate following, who had a Supra. He had a really hard time and managed to get stuck on one of the hairpins. The front end ran out of clearance and the rear wheels just spun. A run up and a cracked splitter meant he managed to get to the top but definitly not the sort of road for Supra's nor i imagine RX7's that like to stretch their legs?
Either way it's still a road to knock off the to do list! Good choice on looking out for some LM's. They are definitly the way to go on 90's Jap metal, not that I am biased or anything

Yeah it was certainly a challenge, I was having problems with the tight bends too. Not sure whether the inside rear wheel was lifting or whether my torsen is knackered but I was struggling to put any power down. Once back out on 'normal' back roads though they felt massive, was pretty good to be able to open her up!
great run, i did it a few months ago in my clio v6 and there was plenty of grinding/scraping sounds coming from the underneath and front of the car which worried me a bit but the tail skipping round some of the greasy hairpins made up for it!
also went over langdale and wrynose which were seriously challenging!
are you from cumbria?
