Who're you insured with? I'm paying just shy of £1200 on an 18 year old 325i!

ETA: At 22, with five years NCB and living in a good postcode.

Also, your car looks lovely.
Thanks, as i said above i have it added to my multi-car policy with admiral. I have had no fault accidents but living a decent post code and having both parents added as named drivers (one is a driving instructor) definitely helps. The other thing is that i have been using the Jag for the past 6 months, a decently powerful RWD saloon must mitigate the risk some what as well. The strange this is i am additional driver on that (my dad's car) and the premium is more than the 335i (£900 pa.) - some things just don't add up some times

Ah the multi-car is probably the deciding factor there then. I too have previously owned a decently powerful RWD saloon (a Jag XJ, lovely aren't they?).

Same applies to me on my Dad's policy (Corsa 1.2) with it bumping the premium up to more than mine. I don't really drive it any more though so we just give it a miss.

Cheers for clearing that up anyway, and happy motoring!

Lovely looking car. Is it manual or auto?
its an auto, but it has the flappy paddles which helps, with them mileage i do auto is a lot easier
Both my old BM's were autos, I really like them. Think they're also kind of the given on this type of car.

Enjoy it.

Nice car, but why did you not go for a 335d/330d if your worried about fuel costs?

Can you even lpg a direct injection engine?

i am considering changing the wheel colour to gunmetal (once my dad has kerbed them sufficiently which wont be too long, judging by his car)

Lovely car. If my dad curbed my M Sport rims, I'd give him a slap and tell him to pay more attention.

Well done on insurance. Proper result. I'm 30 and paying £1050 for my 330i M Sport Saloon. Mine does include business use, so I'm guessing that must push it up a bit. Oh, and I live about 3 miles from Peckham...

Also good work on the MPG, I'm getting about 20MPG out of mine. London commuting isn't brilliant.

I bet all of your pals are envious as fook at your age!
Enjoy!

The astra i had before was a nighmare, sounded like a tractor and the injectors and EGR gasve up the ghost at 85k negating all fuel savings so am wary of diesels now (i have also grown fond of the V6 in the jag i was using for the past 3 months)

I have spoken to a load of LPG converters and they say its perfectly possible and fine to do.

That's good news then. I would also have a 335i over the diesel too, like you said there are not much of a saving.

Any more specific info please ? Would they still need some petrol flowing through all the time, increasing the payback time? Would appreciate it if you could PM me contact info the said converters too and info on prices that you have been quoted/ballparked. Everything I have seen mentions that it is not possible to convert a direct injection engine as yet.

It is only worthwhile doing it if you are going to keep it for a fairly long time, or it is already a high mileage vehicle.

I am considering getting a new car and haven't quite decided which model to go for. I do about 1300 miles per month, so it might be worthwhile for me to consider a conversion.

Arun autogas (would link but the imac has decided it won't copy and paste anymore) quoted around the £1800 mark although i had quote from others that were slightly lower at £1600 odd...the companies name escapes me though. I did double check over the model as its is the 335i and they said it would be fine.

From talking to my dad now it seems to be likely that it won't be converted but instead his S-type will be as he was the one doing the mileage.

Are you sure they meant the E9x 335i ? There are E30 (I think) 335i cars which are easily converted - I only ask again because having been round a few Google searches, I still have not found a direct injection BMW converted.

OK - Found some evidence of some direct injection engines which can be converted, but not the BMW 335i

i think it would be, i gave them the model and age of the car and they said it was ok, weather it was sales staff as opposed to actual fitters that said this i'm not too sure

Thanks. Might give them a call sometime next week to confirm and ask whether they have converted one previously.

Prins do have some Liquid LPG injection systems in the pipeline, due for release early this year, which are said to be suitable for direct injection engines.
