Last year me and Mrs Darren9 tied the knot, and needed extra funds

So, my pride and joy went which was this:

306 GTi-6 with various things done to it.

With us being car less my old man stepped in and sold us this for £400.

and I had big plans to do something like this:

and buy another GTi-6. But, that didn't happen.

Me and the Mrs did get married.

and then we got this as a wedding present to each other.

and realised we would probably need an estate as she is going to get massive! (she's a dogue de bordeaux, bull mastiff cross)

Then this happened.

and getting an estate suddenly seemed a lot more important.

So, yesterday I went to a dealers and put a deposit on this:

A B5.5 1.8T wagon, chose another passat because other than fill it up with petrol we haven't had to do anything to the saloon and they have loads of space for the dog and baby and I really like the look of them. Especially in this blue.

Plans? Well, it has an slight oil leak and needs a cambelt, the dealer was going to do these jobs but we knocked him down on price with these faults included. Both my dad and brother are mechanics and are going to do them for me and I'd prefer them to do it so I know its done right, rather than just to get it off a forecourt. Then it will be getting a good clean and getting a dog guard fitted.

Future plans are more of a wish list than anything else as I'm sure once the baby comes I won't have any spare cash!

But, I'd like a slight drop in ride height, some 18's, a remap, bigger brakes and the blue/black leather/alcantara interior from the V5 fitting.

Seems spookily familiar biggrin

Nothing wrong with an estate when you've got kids and a dog, and it might be an age thing, but I think estates rock. Having said that our one is the wife's car whilst I drive an ST hehe

Good luck with the pregnancy thumbup

Nice choice with the VW Darren. I'm in the same position, my wife gave birth on Tuesday to our first and I've currently got an A4 cabriolet but the pram won't even go in the boot. I'm looking for an estate but still want something to be remotely proud of. I'm thinking of a Passat, A4 or 5 series estate but can't decide which I like the best.

Anyway, I think we know each other, the number in my username might give you a clue!

Simon

P.S. When it gets close to the due date, don't leave it till the last minute to get everything ready. My son was 4 weeks early and it's a hell of a shock when it happens!! Best feeling in the world though, he's 5 days old today and he's laid next to me as I type this, I can't stop looking at him!

Hey

Do you mind if I ask where you got the dog. The reason i ask is that my dog looks almost identical. He came from a rescue called Mastiffs in distress and did have a sister (the rest of the litter died) that was taken just before we got there to get Fred. He is now 2 yrs old.

I used to have a Passat the same shape as your old one (B5) and the only thing that caused a problem with it was constant leaks when it rained. They were a bh to track down caused a couple of wires to corrode under the carpet but other than that it was a brilliantly reliable car but lacked any form of excitement.

also check the oil return filter to the top of the engine - it has a small filter in it - mine got blocked, reduced the oil flow and caused wear - not great frown
