Thanks gents.

I think the Escort Cosworth Monte colour is 'Jewel Violet':

Mine is Noveau Red

Quite similar.

RE: Brakes. These are matched to the capability of the car. I had 270mm solid discs on previously with two piston (opposed) calipers, and after a few stops from 140 the discs were blue and pads smoking. The engine was just a 2.0 N/A. To give an idea; the CP7030 calipers are from the rear of an F3 car which has 210 bhp and weighs 550kg, so 381bhp/ton. My car will be circa 550bhp at 1200kg, so 458bhp/ton.

I know i've mentioned this twice before but still....is there any chance you'll change your wheels to perhaps something more OEM such as the Escort above? I'm in love with this project and think the wheels you've chosen aren't up to par with the rest of the build which is amazing.

tinkertaylor,

The wheels on that Escort are Rondell aftermarket items, not OEM... though almost every Escort Cosworth ended up warring a set through the 90's, so you'd be forgiven for thinking they were OEM!

OP,

Great result in finding the 7J wheels. I always thought the 6.5J versions' thin spokes didn't suit the stocky, chunky look of a lowered, RS Turbo 'kitted Fiesta. These wider wheels should look fantastic.

How do the OEM option wheels compare to the Pro Race items in terms of weight? I'm aware you're conscious of unnecessarily increasing unsprung weight.

I haven't weighed them both yet, but I will do. Form will win out over function in this case though smile

Cheers. I need to move into the unit and get a lift installed, then I will start on a trial fit of some Clio RS 200 suspension.

I did some research into diemsions/specifications of various OEM fitment four pot calipers from different brands, knowing that the obvious choices are just blatantly over priced. I setteld on the MGTF Trophy/T160 AP Racing calipers:

The MG area will be milled flat, the calipers resprayed in gloss black with the standard yellow AP Racing decals i.e.:

My choice was based on the data which I collected:

MGTF
PCD: 4x98.5 mm
Wheel Centre bore: 56.6 mm
Caliper lug spacing: 82.55 mm
Disc size: 304 mm

Fiesta
PCD: 4×108 mm
Wheel Centre bore: 63.4 mm
Caliper lug spacing: 82.55 mm

I plan to use the calipers with ST170 discs. The loss of 2mm on each side of the disc is offset by a ridge on the MG pads. If the ST170 discs don't suit the caliper offset then I will have the centre bores on the MG discs enlarged and the holes milled to suit the Ford PCD.

The Calipers should be a bolt on solution, if not they will be modified to suit. Two piece discs will be added later. All in, I've saved at least £1200 off an AP kit.
Mark - did you ever get anywhere with this solution? It's an interesting variation on the Mondeo MK3 brake upgrade for the Puma . If the caliper offsets suited using standard Ford discs it would work well - but life is rarely that straightforward!

Sorry, I hadn't spotted this. The MG caliper lug spacing turned out to be more like 88mm, so the Ford hubs must be slotted to accommodate them. I never took this forward due to going with the AP'S.

I have a temporary distraction at the moment, as pointed out by LouD86: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Normal service will resume shortly biggrin.

Hey, guys Faced with the same problem connecting the pump, I want to get more information about Can controller, shown in the photograph, help contact the user who has this device. kind regards.
Max_Torque said:
You are right to avoid the "Saxo" type pump (actually a canadian HPI unit) as they have limited performance (approx 500W of hydraulic power) which isn't really enough in anything with a quick steering rack in it. I use the TRW pump in my rally car (from mk2 Focus RS) as it makes approx 1.2kW of hydraulic power and hence delivers significantly less "sag" when doing serious arm twirling (critical in my case because i have a high volume focus wrc rack (1.1turns LtL;-) )

The Gen3 TRW pump will need a CAN signal to run it unfortunately. (some people using the old Gen2 version say that it will run in a "limp" mode with just power connected (i.e. when it doesn't get any load signals off CAN, it defaults to running at a fixed meduim speed) My gen3 version does exactly nothing if you just power it........

I made a little controller that requests a pump speed based on vehicle speed, handwheel rate and a "mode" selector, giving me 3 choices for levels of assistance (i also implemented a "low battery" power down mode in case of alternator failure (the pump pulls well over 100A when fully loaded !!)

(note new alluminium end cap as pump is in the "cabin"

CAN controller

I am thinking about making the controller availible to people who want to use this pump for other applications such as yours.

The controller was made by Max_torque himself. When I looked into this I was going to experiment with a stepper motor driver wired directly to the motor i.e. bypassing totally the inbuilt controller and logic.

I need just such a controller to control the pump that has 3 connectors for the connection, you have max torque e-mail?, because through this forum can not contact him.
