Well my names chris i am 22.
My car history is not massive. It started with a 1.6 megane that just fell to bits.
I then got a ten plate vauxhall corsa had that for 5 month and was so uncomftable so i swapped that for a 10 plate fiesta titanium. The fiesta was shocking had it for 6 week in that time the wheel fell of there was no lacker on the front bumper and the paint started to peel.It also melted cds and the gear box broke took it back to ford who gave me all my money back and were really apoligetic. So i have decided not to spend alot on a new car and just buy one to put me on.
So yesterday i bought a escort si for £500 pound with tax and test its ok it as got a little surface rust on the rear arches but that is it really.

It did come with escort rs turbo wheels on but had to bold tyres.
But i managed to pick the mondeo wheels up for £60 with four new tyres.
Would like to no if anyone as experience with these car just to tell me what to look out for.

Cheers chris

I just wasn't comfy in the new hatch backs and had to many problems.
I would rather have a older car for a bit and not lose any money.

Arches. Tidy up what you've got there and then keep a very close eye. They're a real bugger on that shape Escort.

A company I used to work for had an Si in the car pool, which I always used to take over the Vectras, Mondeos, etc. I remember they were a cracking steer along a b road. Shame that like most fords of that era they're so rust prone. Check the springs too - Fords of that era seem to break them frequently.

Had a 1.6 Si back in the day when my Grandpa was alive, a brand new '95 on a 'N' plate and iirc correctly as he worked at Halewood he got me a discount voucher which gave me 30% off. It was a pretty well built car, was reasonably quick and my favourite feature was the white dials! As the above poster said, it was also a pretty decent steer as were most Fords of the day.

Those wheels also came on the GTI, of which I bought the second to last one in the country and had stolen about six months later!

There it is, in full Le Mans regalia, which was a giggle.

It was my first car, a 1.6 16V Zetec like yours. It was a very rare (only ever seen one Mondeo the same) colour, Metallic Loden Green, which made it feel a bit 'special' as my first car.
I really liked it, was a perfect first car - much, much better to drive than a pokey little supermini - they are 90bhp IIRC and fine on the motorway.
These ones come with nicer wingback seats, white dials, shiny black dash, the nicer front end with fog lights and a smaller leather 3 spoke steering wheel. I really think they make an ideal first car, and the insurance was pretty cheap, low grouping. Cheaper than a much smaller engined Fiesta of equivalent age.

The only problems of note really were watching out for rot on the rear arches and door bottoms, bottom arms/bushes dont last too long and making sure you had the correct oil in as IIRC they have hydraulic lifters.

Other than that, it was very reliable, the engine is unburstable, and parts are very, very cheap. They are also really easy to work on. The engine was considerably more eager than the 1.6 16V in my mothers newer Astra that I used to drive previously to buying this.
