Introduction and my new car
Discussion
Afternoon all. After a long time lurking on the pistonheads forums I have decided that my new car is worthy enough for me to actually sign up!
A little introduction about myself. My name is Tony and I'm 22 years old and from Southend in Essex. I work as an IT support analyst in London and during my spare time I gig as a drummer with 2 bands.
My car history is a little bleak compared to some of you on the forums but I learned to drive and started off with my mums 2004 1.6 bright yellow punto sporting. Then I progressed to my old car...an '06 1.4 Grande Punto active sport which was quite lively to drive but nothing outstanding. Kept that for almost 4 years and a couple of months ago started hankering for something a little bit tastier. Bearing in mind I'm a 22 year old guy from Essex I have to watch out for insurance premiums so I didn't want to go to over the top. 2 cars that are on my buy lists for when I'm a bit older are the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and I've always wanted an Escort RS Turbo
After a lengthy period of pondering what to get I finally settled on this:
She's a '59 Abarth Grande Punto TJET 155. I picked her up last week for the princely sum of £10500 OTR (just had a money knocked off her by the dealer). She's an absolute blast to drive, so much livelier than my active sport. The sport button brings the most stupidly big smile to my face however since I did half a tank of fuel in the first 3 days of owning it I've calmed down using it a bit!
I hope you enjoy the pictures, I'll try and get some better ones and some interior ones aswell.
Cheers
Tony

Welcome to Pistonheads OP
Nice car you've got there, looks good with the black alloys.
What are they like to drive?
Thanks mate Nice car you've got there, looks good with the black alloys.

Really really nice actually. It seems a lot more glued to the road than my old active sport, goes exactly where I want it to go. The sport boost button also takes some of the assist away from the power steering so I can feel the road under the car a lot more when thats on too. Must admit the gear stick on this is a lot stiffer than my old one so since I've had it, my gear changes have been a bit rubbish. Will get there eventually though!
Cheers all
Yeah the reason I went for a red one was because my other car was black and I don't really like the white ones so only left one option! Happy I went for it though
Yeah would love to meet up on one of the PH meets, where/when do you guys usually meet? Although I'm sure my little Abarth might not be up to the same standards of some of your guys cars!
I'm in Southend but I live just west of the airport, kind of where hockley woods meets the suburban bit. Quite nice and a few good driving roads! Especially up near Wakering and the like.
Thanks all!

Very jelous mate, always liked these and seem to be getting very reasonably priced recently!
I'm 21 and like you the insurance is just killing me, cant afford literally anything decent... I drive a 1.4 Bora which is still £1200 to insure for me with 3 years NCB! crazy times.
anyway... car looks lovely is what im trying to say lol!

You need to spend more time looking for insurance quotes.. I'm driving a modified 306 gti-6 (170bhp+) with 0 ncb (was 21 at time of policy) for just over 1k pa I'm 21 and like you the insurance is just killing me, cant afford literally anything decent... Maybe we should have a local ph mini meet
Thanks again guys
Insurance for this isnt too bad actually. £850 and thats with 2 years NCB and one extremely minor parking bump on my record (wasnt even worth reporting really as no damage in the slightest but this increased my premium £300 when I did the honest thing and told the insurance company)
Yeah theres some superb driving roads not too far from southend. Wakering, Ashingdon and Canewdon being the top 3 IMO. If you want to go a little bit further out then Rettendon, and the Hanningfields are epic
Oh and definitely up for a PH minimeet
