If this is the Paragon car, it's had the race engine taken out and a 'cooking' GT3 engine put in....

Just get the chassis number if you are still trying to determine the authenticity.

Factory built cup cars will have the following chassis numbers WPOZZZ99ZWS698001 to approx 29. Production in 1998.

or WPOZZZ99ZXS698001 to approx 81. Production in 1999.

After the middle 3 letters it will be 6?????. The digit after the 6 will be 9 if its a GT3 of some flavour and then after the 9 you want to see an 8 for the factory built Cup cars.

If it doesn't even have the 9 after the 6 it is likely to just be a factory delivered C2 that was then built close to Cup car spec by a race team.

This car then appears to have had a further £12k spending to make it look like a GT3 RS race car. Not to be confused with the current road going GT3 RS.

Hope this helps.

Just a question on this car, being a Porsche novice, what engine power would this be expected to have and what would you think the car to be really worth ?

Power wise it depends what the engine is, if its 3.4 old pre GT3 cup 996= 300 bhp area, if GT3 normal non race jobbie stock of early ones = 360bhp but if its in good nick & has had inlet & exhaust mods should be 370-380bhp, from memory GT3 cup cars were 370 or 380 bhp.

Engines built to R spec 400+ bhp, (think the figs were 410bhp@9100rpm) but wont be long between (expensive) re-builds tho!

The "MR" in "GT3MR" refers to Manthey Racing. A german company that is well known for tuning porsches including GT3.

The car isn`t a GT3 cup car, as you rightly say the interior is a bit plush - I know, you don`t get much in a GT3 cup car for your money !! A couple of other give aways are the fact that the car doesn`t have centre lock wheels or a hole in the bonnet for the air jacks.

I know the car and it has to be said the car has been well built and does have race history in the hands of Mark Sumpter in the Porsche cup. It was the first 996 raced in the UK. The car is built on a standard road car so doesn`t have the GT3 dry sump engine.

If you wanted a good track day car it would certainly do the job. As for £38k ? Well that`s for you guys to rattle around amongst yourselves. A little optimistic? possibly, but then what do I know about pricing cars and in fairness if you wanted to build one up for yourselves you wouldn`t be able to do it for the money.

As for RHD GT3 cup cars they don`t exist. The only one ever built was / is the Jones Brother`s GT3 R built by Mike Jordan at JWR (formerly Eurotech) - a top notch piece of kit and well into 3 figures if you fancied a go !!

Did anyone here buy this car?

(link from first post)

Parked near it in the outfield car park near the paddock entrance at Donington for the FIA GTs on Sunday. Didn't get time for a proper look though.
