I am looking to upgrade my measly 2 pot brakes on the front of my Corvette (Apologise for mentioning that name here!)

I know of many kits in existance that use the 993 Twin Turbo Calipers, which as you guys will appreciate are pretty rare (unless money is no object!)

Can you tell me which calipers in the Porsche family most closely resemble those used on the 993TT?.

I have been informed that the closest match are those of the 928GTS (1992, mid year onwards) which I beleive are the same as the 944 Turbo (not sure of year or further model abbreviations).

Please Help.

The callipers from the 928 GTS are affectionately known as 'Big Blacks'. They are the same size as the 993TT Big Reds, excepet that they are , er , black The 250bhp 944 Turbos use the same callipers as the 928 S4.

All three types use the same mounting bolts and points and so are interchangeable (if you have 17" wheels) The only alteration is the the bleed nipples and brake pipes need reversing with Big Reds because they were mounted at the front of the brake disk on 993TT as opposed to the rear with 928 and 944.

If you call a Porsche main dealer you will be pleasantly surprsed at the cost of the calliper itself, it is less than you think. A friend installed Big Reds at less than £300 each last year.

I've got a pair of 964RS 'Big Blacks' (black version of 964 Turbo big reds) been meaning to bung in the classifeds for ages, I'll get my arse in gear & do photos & bung 'em in the classieds over the weekend.

Can't remember 993T sizes but 964RS = 322mm discs
4 piston calipers piston sizes= 2=44mm 2x36mm

A ha, I knew I had the info somewhere-

Ive used 993RS figs as sure its the same as 993T.

Both 993RS & 964RS use the same size front discs at 322mm x 32mm & share the same piston sizes (as do new 996T's BTW) however 993RS set up has a larger brake pad area than 964RS= 302cm2 vs 250cm2

(bigger gain on 993RS rears tho- 250cm2 vs 172cm2)

Total brake area 993RS= 552cm2 vs 964RS= 422cm2

Anyway after all that I finally put my calipers in the classifieds-

I was always under the impression that the rear calipers on the 993RS had slightly larger pistons than the 993TT versions...so slightly improved set up for same breaking areas.
