Davrian,

You've summed up all my feelings for not joining PCGB and also confrimed some of my preconceptions. Cheers!

That'll be 55 quid saved then. Lovely.

Hmmm,

My Essex region PCGB has all sorts, from a pretty ordinary 924 driven all year round by a lady owner to some 996 owning types, I was made to feel welcome by the RO and all in all am happy that I made the decision to join.
The website and club mag however are a different kettle of fish, a it nobbish at times, even though the subject matter can be quite mundane....

I would do as others have suggested, go along and find out first hand, as Mel says you get out what you put in, don't expect it all delivered on a plate, it's not quite that sort of an experience.

kevin. PCGB member starting from this year.

My collected ramblings

As has always been the case with any car club - the region is often what makes or breaks it. Martin Molyneaux is a good R/O - no elitism in Essex. The PCGB used to be run on a more "regional" basis but grew too large for that.

Some PCGB events are expensive for what they are, some are not. Take the Brands Hatch festival - not expensive for what it offers. I've never agreed with club members having to pay for events such as the national - after all - the member ought to gain some benefit. Having said that - the last free PCGB national event was probably 14 years ago.

Same goes for other clubs though as regards charging for events.

Difficult to compare costs for events such as Le Mans - you need to compare apples and apples - often a club orgainsed event provides better facilities or choice of campsite than a DIY one.

Liverpool and Vic are NOT always the cheapest. My 911 is insured through Classic line for 1/3 of Liv Vic's costs (plus they had the dumbest operator on that day!).
