I've just bought some poverty Pork…
Discussion
Thanks for the info.
Will check out Spyder.
It's booked in for the 20th March, so have a couple of weeks to collect parts.
I'm based in Dorset, near Dorchester.
The suspension is quite tired / rattily. Would be nice to get it sorted. Tyre wear is even.
Part of the reason for not lowering it is that would then need to tell insurer, it costs under £200 to insure currently (6k, business use).

Looks a nice, well cared for example, very similar to mine. No idea on cost / value though, prices have gone up a lot since I bought mine in 2018.Have a good look through the paperwork, suspension will be pretty tired, clutch may be due before too long, coil packs will need replacing soon if not done, alternator and water pump seem to go quite often around that mileage.
Since 2018 I have only done 11k, has cost me 6 tyres, a small exhaust blow, and coil packs. Though just about to spend on suspension...

I have a quandary. My poverty pork, an 01 986 s on 76k just snapped OSF coil spring, well lowered it's self by 10mm anyway.
My thoughts are - can't just replace a single spring, got to be at least the pair. If replacing springs, might as well do shocks. If doing shocks and springs then should probably replace lower wishbones, drop links, track rod ends are corroded / play as well... Hmmn.
I don't have the time / skill / patience / tools , so will be the local indy but I will source parts. Used for spirited commuting on B roads.
Hartech seem to do refurb coffin arms which seems like a no brainer if doing, but should I bother?
Springs - no great desire to lower, especially as not doing rear. Design911 do OE for £284 or "Suplex" for £144 - any thoughts?
Shocks - Design 911 do Koni Special active for £440, or or Bilstein B4 for £316... will I need a " mounting overhall kit" as well?
Drop links, track rods - ?
Ballpark hours for indy to do the above?
Any other thoughts? Thanks
I've just been through this process on my 997 and it really comes down to how long you're intending to keep the car. If it's a keeper and you're flush do it all, springs, shocks, mount. coffin arm etc etc and a decent geo that suits how you use the car e.g. trakc focussed, fast B road etc. If you're not 100% it's a keeper just do a pair of shocks/springs and anything else that "needs" to be done when they replacing the springs/shocks. My thoughts are - can't just replace a single spring, got to be at least the pair. If replacing springs, might as well do shocks. If doing shocks and springs then should probably replace lower wishbones, drop links, track rod ends are corroded / play as well... Hmmn.

Cheapest way is replace just the spring and anything that needs to be cut out/damaged to replace just the spring.
Good luck.

I only pay a smidge over that for a 996 with quite a few mods. Most mods don't add much, if any premium with specialist insurance brokers Edited by jmsgld on Monday 6th March 09:01

O/T but as mine is due in a few days who are the notable pork specialist insurers? Curious if they could lure me away from my £170 Saga renewal Mine made it out of the garage for the first time in a few months yesterday.
New stainless exhaust manifolds fitted (subtle rasp over standard which I like).
New braided rear brake lines including flex’s and calliper pipes fitted.
Full gearbox service completed.
Diff output shaft seal on NS, OS o-ring and oil replaced.
Hopefully that’s it for the year!

Stayed with Saga - added £50 voluntary xs bringing the total to £200. Renewed at £142 I have 3 cars insured with ensure, the box is £165.70 with a decent chunk being for key cover as it only came with one key! I have had to use them , mostly for windscreen cover but they have authorised OEM glass and mostly fitted by my preferred independent fitter. Some numpty pulled out on me at a roundabout and they sorted the repair at a Porsche approved body shop with no hassle.
Plus the ease of just letting it autorenew and not having to faff around is a bonus...

I had a quote from design 911 for all the parts which came to £1500 with Koni. A lot of it is new fitting parts for the shocks , does anyone that has done this have any idea of how much of the old fitments - top mount, nuts etc was reusable? Thanks
Unless there is an offer on I'd guesstimate that you could save 10% plus by sourcing elsewhere. jmsgld said:

Design 911 are very expensive. If you get Classic Porsche Register and a nominal discount from OPC they will beat D911 for most things…jmsgld said:

986’s get dropped to me from all over the country for work; commonly suspension work. With regard your question, you can re-use the bellow, the 2 big washers and the smaller washer.
Shout if you’d like me to help, I am based in Surrey.

If you're going to use Autodoc, as someone has suggested, you should install the app, you get a much larger discount with the app compared to the website. It's their way of getting people to adopt the app.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
