It depends what driving in the week entails.

I was previously finishing work at 2pm and could take the back roads home every day. Now I finish at 4.30pm so it's darkness and the main road there and back in busy traffic (going home), essentially a complete waste of a sports car.

I think it depends on the person. I know people who spend 5 or 6 hours cleaning their car. These are the people who obsess about condition and try to use their car less because god forbid it gets damaged, chipped or worn. I saw an ad on ebay with some guy selling a 330d and there is a pic of the car wearing its cover. Who the F covers their 330d when they're not driving it - these are the people who obsess about how many miles a car has done and hiw original it is. I don't think they even enjoy driving.

Found it

Notice the seller says

Better than Dealer condition

Am I allowed in this bit of the forum now?

A few weeks ago I risked 6.5k and bought a 2003 Boxster, its a basic 2.7 with very few gizmos (CD player and a fan about sums it up) but it is rather fun to drive!

We like details here or ideally a link to the original ad. If you've not experienced steering feel like these provide it can be surprising. Just enjoy the thing and you'll realise they're an absolute bargain.

This looked far to cheap and was sold within a few hours. I noticed it Friday I think when it was for sale at 9500 and didn't mention it because I was tempted to buy it myself. On Saturday it changed to an auction with a Buy Now at 9000 and someone clicked the button yesterday about 5pm I think.

Come on then own up!

Car appears to be in Camberley now and its wheels being sold off.

Not a risk at all. You'll love it - the 2.7 is a real sweetie as it's so smooth and revvy.

Maintain it well, ensure the cooling system is in good nick (clean rads, make sure the cooling fans cut in on low speed just above the '80' mark on the gauge) and it'll treat you well.

Above all, drive the bloody doors off of it - the 2.7 Box is a car you can drive pretty hard and not go at silly speeds, so it's very tactile in that respect.

You can even get 16 inchers on a 2.7 with skinny slide inducing tyres.

I've just picked up the ultimate in poverty Pork. It's a 2002 2.7 Boxster that just failed an MOT due to having no brake lights and a broken spring.

All in all it looked a bit unloved but has a decent service history with Autofarm so I figured I'd give it a bash since it was cheap.

How it looked before

The interior after a good cleanup

Seats are in pretty good condition

Roof looks a bit better after a clean but not amazing

After a good wash, clay, polish and then a wax it looks like a whole different car, pretty chuffed with it.

Brake lights were fixed with a new switch, still need to replace the broken spring. The main reason it was cheap was due to some strange noises coming from the engine (mostly at low speed) which I'm pretty confident is belt related so it'll be getting some new pulleys, belt and a water pump before long.

Not bad for sub £1k

At sub £1k that's a steal. It would break for more. Use the Renovo hood reviver for a bit of colour back on the roof then Fabsil for a seal and waterproof.

I've used to Autoglym stuff on it for now just because I wanted it cleaned and protected quickly since it's been neglected for so long. I can tackle it properly once winter is done.

It was considerably under £1k so an utter bargain. Just looked at the water pump and the bearing is definitely shot in that and the coolant level was low. I'll probably do the pump and thermostat just to be safe. Just need to sell a Mondeo then I'll have the cash for the bits needed.

Even as a breaker it's worth a lot more than that! Sensational buy

You are right, that is the ultimate poverty buy. Well done, but just where did you find that?

I'm going to guess you work in a garage and it was offered to you after it failed the MOT?

Fantastic buy, even if the engine noise ended up being terminal.

Nope I work in IT and a guy at work was going to sell it for cheap anyway due to the general condition and a strange noise coming from the engine, then it failed the MOT and everybody lost interest so he sold it to me.

I've checked and the strange noise is almost certainly the water pump bearing. Strangely it failed the MOT on a broken spring but after jacking it up and checking the spring isn't broken. Going to get it re-tested now the brake lights work.

Fantastic buy indeed. Just to be cautious, I would double check all body-work before buying any expensive parts, to see if is rust-free or no serious accident before with the help of a good indie ?

Boxsters do not get really rust but just in case, if it's a clean-body, with nearly 6-7k you could turn this car into a proper sports car with everyday reliability, and enjoy it for years!

I have a feeling he doesn't want to spend 6-7k on it.

I can't see any reason he'd need to.
