The 986S brake discs and pads cost relative peanuts. I think they are the cheapest brake parts for any Porsche known to man.
On Euro Car Parts at least, discs and pads are cheaper for the 2.5 / 2.7, although there's not that much in it in the grand scheme of things.

Ok my bad. Last time I looked was over 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure that at that time the 3.2 discs and pads were a lot cheaper than the 2.5 / 2.7 discs and pads. Possibly because they fit the 996 also - no idea.

Zenith and 16s. Ideal for me, almost.

I'm not sure about Zenith. Although i guess its ok. Would prefer grey interior maybe to lighten it up. I'm still not sure i could deal with the plastic window. Surely it affects visibility - right?

My first was Zenith over grey; very late-90s with the ambers.

Rear window, as Moose says above, is bigger than the glass number on the later vehicles but requires some care and a little polish now and then to keep from going milky. And, of course, the infamous "Boxster chop" mid way through lowering the roof to keep it from splitting. Quirks, character, etc.

My first one was a 2000MY V Plate. Zenith blue and Sport Classics II's. A new rear window stitched in is circa £250.

I initially clicked on this advert as it was a colour I've not seen before. I read the service history on the advert and it's eye watering. I personally think listing all the costs for work done on the advert is a bad move, it's enough to scare you off owning a Porsche altogether. Who can justify bills like these on a 5k car?

Spread over 6 years & that mileage it is easy. Over 15k miles mine cost me £1.49 per mile. My Jeep Grand Cherokee cost me £7K in bits over 60K miles & none of that was cosmetic, all servicing & repairs.
Whether you should list it is an interesting dilemma. I keep a spreadsheet for all my cars so can find the numbers both good & bad.

Its Polar Silver i believe. Silver with a hint of blue. I like it. Looks very low to me too but no mention of why. Has has a recon gearbox and a new head in the bills. Sounds like a good one.

Everything in the list is actually not a suprise for these cars at this age. It just shows how you could easily be ripped off by an over-priced specialist or OPC. I would say most of those items in 8 years might have still cost a lot though, even though you carry all the work by yourself, due to the fact that porsche parts are super-expensive, unless you do find some super-bargains.

the fact that they replaced 4-6 cylinder heads, showing still how many of these cars(200-05) exposed to over-heating and intermix.

The intermix is a big issue yet rarely mentioned in buying guides. If you see a Boxster S for sale as spares or repairs it always seems to be due to intermix.

Does it only affect Boxsters - asking as i have an early 996?

The cylinder heads develop a crack that lets oil into the coolant. The coolant emulsifies and that's the only sign you have of a problem, the engine runs fine, if you don't check your expansion tank regularly you could do a few thousand miles like this and make a right mess of the coolant system.

It's an expensive repair and very labour intensive to sort especially if not caught early. You need to replace the cylinder head which is a pretty big job and finding a decent used one is not always easy. You ideally also need to removing all the coolant pipes and hoses and clean them out/replacing anything that's been damaged by the oil (they seem to bloat after oil contamination and go soft). You also need to remove the radiators and flush them out. On a Boxster S, you have 3 radiators and there are loads of pipes and hoses connecting it all up. If done at a garage and done properly the bill is likely to be as much as the average Boxster S is worth.

I've read that it mainly affects the early Boxster S, around 2000, not sure about the 996. Apparently there was a bad batch of cylinder heads rather than it being a design fault or it being related to overheating. That means there isn't much you can do with regards to preventative maintenance. Luck of the draw I guess.
