Escy,
Thanks for the explanation. Whoosh - that sounds like a good one to avoid if you possibly can, and a nasty one to cop if you do. It strikes me that Boxsters and Caymans can prove very expensive if you buy the wrong one and the early 3.4 Cayman is the one most likely to sting you hard.
I'll be looking seriously at what to buy when it finally becomesillegal just too damned expensive to drive my much-loved old 944 into the London ULEZ and the more I read, the more I think that a 2.7 or 2.9 Cayman is the sensible and not too financially agonising way forward.

She has owned it for nearly 10 years I think, and never had any issue. Wonderful engine.

They creep up a touch in March/April around Easter when people have time on their hands and you get a couple of days of unseasonably warm weather. At the same time more start to appear on the market.
Cheers, that's probably around the time I'd be looking to buy. I thought people may hold off a bit until the warmer weather before selling as well, so there maybe some really good examples appearing around then too. I guess we'll have to see what's around and buy the best I can find. To give you a feel, last year picked up a 2000 3.2 S with less than 60k miles for £5k.
Weirdly the 2.5 prices were similar if not stronger.
Had to move quick though, car was advertised that morning, I bought it at lunchtime. Guy was taking enquiries as I was there. Keenly priced cars shift quick, optimistically priced cars tend to clog up your search for months.

I'm looking to get into a 986 before too long, just need to get my finances in order. Will be at the 4-5k mark depending on what's available and probably a 2.5 or 2.7.
Would people expect the prices start to rise for Spring? And if so when does this rise typically start?

Drive past that each morning, does look really good. Don't recall seeing many 986's in Seal Grey either. How come she sold it?http://www.911box.co.uk/used-cars/8017451-porsche-...

No idea really. It was a fantastic, low-mileage and properly looked after car. The engine sounded great, If I was in the market for 986, this would be one of the options I would go for. You can just drive it without any hassle. I tried to convince my OH for her next car, rather than buying evoque but she denies to use manual & 2 seats unfortunately :/here is my old one, parking next to it a few years ago!

Cheers, yeah the prices I've seen so far don't seem to depend on the size of engine or age much. A bit all over the place.Weirdly the 2.5 prices were similar if not stronger.

I do expect the decent ones to shift quickly though.

Well it's certainly a distinctive colour , and appears to have some good work done to it recently. If I had the money available now I'd certainly be going to have a look.So a heads up for bargain Boxster owners. I've recently discovered a new common problem that I wasn't aware of previously.
I walked up to the car yesterday after work intending to throw my laptop into the boot but the damn thing wouldn't open, heard the sound of the motor but no movement from the bootlid. Turns out that there's a fairly common issue with the bowden cable fraying and letting go so the motor can't release the boot.
The fix is to get a new cable and then pull the rear bumper skin back from the passenger side rear wheel to reveal an emergency release cable which will get you into the boot so you can replace the cable.
I've not done this yet but I've just ordered a set of new coil packs so I'll try and sort the boot out while fitting those.
