Only reduced from £4750 today.
Ok my mistake then. Can we remember where it started?

Thanks for the insurance replies -

Another question -

Some posts have mentioned £1000 upwards per year to run a Boxster. In your opinions what would that £1k or more include apart from fluids and filters.

I see some people have said that they get away with about £300 - £400 for a major service. Similar to my other vehicles.

The reason I ask is I would like to take the plunge into some 'Poverty Pork' but sadly I have 'Poverty Pockets'!

I currently run other vehicles so would not do many miles in my Pork - mainly weekends and probably no more than 3,000 - 5,000 miles each year. My theory being (major engine blow ups aside!)that if I could find a tidy car to start with that needs little spending on it after initial purchase and then dealing with routine maintenance (that every modern car would need)why would I need to budget over a grand?

Am I being naive and that in reality I would have to keep chiucking money at it regardless of my 'limited' mileage?

Thanks
You’re looking at old cars, parts wear out, fail, rust. They can be run cheap if they are new or you’re lucky but they can bite too. All sorts of parts can fail. I’ve not found them super reliable. Parts are expensive. £1000 is the minimum really for a year in my experience and many years have been a lot more than that

They dont work at work but they do on my phone. I see it fine now.

So i still believe that the maintenance on a 986 is the same as a 996. Which for me makes the entry price irrelevant. In fact throw in the soft top and there is further potential for bills. Ok not totally irrelevant but still the point is if you pay 4 or 5 or 6 or 10 grand for a 986 they still have the potential to throw 2 grand bills at you or more.

I'd still feel bills like that much easier to stomach on a £15k car vs. a £5k one.

Because if it’s 10% of the cars value in annual servicing it’s palatable, whereas 30-40% (or even 50%) then it hurts. A lot.

Because i am drunk and because 4000 to buy is not the main consideration. It surely must be do you want to spend thousands on maintenance and run the risk of problems or failures. This is what make the entry price of say 4000 largely irrelevant.

Regarding the fuel level, I believe if you let it go too low you're risking dredging up the swill and sediment up into the engine.

I believe the fuel system has a filter though?

The cars all have fuel filters, in line on the early cars and as part of the pump in facelift ones. The sucking up crud is a scenario often mentioned but when is the last time this has actually happened to anybody in any car let alone a modern ish Porsche.

I'm not fully confident but Clutch hose + clutch pipeline looks somehow 5x more expensive than Bmw Z4 or similar range. :/

The parts and extra labour just adds up, makes the few hundred quid generic servicing up to thousands. That list would have been 3 times over if it was OPC, which is another story hehe

I've had it a year now and this is the first time any kind of Porsche specialist has given it a going over. I've not even had a wheel off due to locking wheel nuts and no key thing.

Finally get to join in the fun! Paid £2800 for this 2000 Boxster S with 124k on the clock, full history and 4 previous owners (last one for 8 years). Bought it with an MOT expiring so stuck it through yesterday and it sailed through with an advisory on one of the rear tyres. Given it an oil and filter change along with a good going over and she’s mint all round and underneath. Few minor niggles like drivers door window not dropping but otherwise all good. Happy with that!

I know right? Got it from a mate of a mate who was going to sell it to WeBuyAnyCar and that was the price they gave him. I wasn't even looking for a Boxster but I couldn't let him sell it to them for that! biggrin

That's less than some of the bills I have had on mine frown

Absolute bargain, well done!

EDIT: Really want the Orange Boxster but I need rear seats on my DD..... never seen a 996 in this shade or I'd snap their hand off.

I'm feeling a bit like the odd one out here because I am not frothing at the mouth over the orange one. Cobalt I can get excited about. Maybe it looks better in the flesh?
