The cars all have fuel filters, in line on the early cars and as part of the pump in facelift ones. The sucking up crud is a scenario often mentioned but when is the last time this has actually happened to anybody in any car let alone a modern ish Porsche.
Fair enough but I wouldn't of thought the issues (clogged filter/overloading) have been dreamt out of thin air. An experienced mechanic explained to me that its not a good idea so I play safe and don't drive on fumes.

I think it stems from the olden days when fuel tanks were metal and not plastic and could get big chunks of rust in them. Not really an issue in a modern car.

Stunning bargain that, well done.

I fancy taking a look at the orange one when I can make the time to make the journey over there.

There's a few others I'd like to look at though.
This one looks decently priced, but then you look at the advert revision history and it seems to have been on there since June 2017
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-Boxster-2-7-986...

Then there's this one that's close but seems a bit high priced compared to others around and also seems to have been there a while (Oct 2017)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-Boxster-2-7-Con...

Then there's another one here for £5k which is also close, but again priced high, but from a Porsche specialist. Not sure how long that's been on there though

Any thoughts on those.

How much difference does the 2.7 make over the 2.5? Is it really significant on the road?

Can you fit a 2.5 gearbox to the 2.7 to give closer ratios?

Cheers sounds like I should be aiming more for a 2.7 if I can find one I like.

I do like it from the advert, but I believe it's a bit of a trek from me so need to find some time to get over there. Which is probably part of the reason it hasn't sold yet I guess...

Something I have been considering for a while.
The only drawback is the current ratios gives it a lovely long legged cruising character on the motorway.

When testing I found there's a bigger difference between 2.5 to 2.7, than from 2.7 to 3.2.

Yeah it's not as bad as that, just will take a few hours or so.

Went to look at one this morning. Drove well enough but there were a few issues
  • Gear change was stiffer than I expected going into second and third. Clutch felt fine though.
  • Some vibration through the wheel under harder braking, but braked in a straight line and discs looked OK
  • Not a very detailed history, but a nearly full set of stamps apart from the last service which the garage had done.
Got some more to look at first though. Including the orange one.

Sensitive to gearbox oil & lubrication of the cables. Vibration could be the discs being slightly rusty after being stood for a while. Mine used to do that.

Cheers, the car has been with them over the winter so probably hasn't had a lot of use recently apart from moving in and out of the storage garage.

Remeber, gearbox oil is supposed to be renewed every 96k. I suspect many haven't. Mine was still on the original at 113k. Replaced shortly after when doing the clutch, etc, but I didn't notice any difference.

Selecting 1st and 2nd (5 speed) gear are quite stiff from cold (in this weather) on mine but improves significantly once up to temperature.

I liked that 2.5 on sale at Shirleys. Anyone dealt with them before or, better yet, seen the car?

I nearly bought a 996 from Shirleys about 10 yrs ago, though bought one from PCT at the time purely on the spec of the PCT car. My BIL bought a 997 from them a few years ago and he had good service. Shirleys are very much old fashioned in that the showroom could be used in a 1960s film, though they have a good reputation and use the technical know how of Martin Brown on the same site for servicing/ mechanically preparing the cars whose serviced a couple of my cars in the past until I found someone closer to home.

Cool, will be interested in hearing your thoughts. I'm not in the market right now (alas) but once I'm finally ready will be good to have some references. Who knows, it might still be for sale in a months time.
