Whilst I do recall seeing cheaper 987.2 cars posted here, I wonder if the cognoscenti consider the below as thread worthy:

114k, but FSH (franchise? - could mean anything) and MOT history suggests it has been used as a daily driver. 20k miles per year, so likely to be motorway.
Gen2 is a better engine than m96/m97, but far from perfect (imho). So I think with that mileage/age, the price is a bit too much. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I would be happy to pay half of that money, with half mileage (less than 60k) 986, and most probably have a trouble free motoring for a few years anyway.

Depends what you're looking for - if I was in the market for a 987.2 I'd be interested. Cheapest 987.2 I can find - some optimistically priced low mileage 986s are five figures, but I'm not sure these are selling? Agreed though, VFM wise a lower mileage 986 at reasonable money would be a better proposition.I would be happy to pay half of that money, with half mileage (less than 60k) 986, and most probably have a trouble free motoring for a few years anyway.
Re: MA1 being better than the M96/M97 is a bit of an understatement don't you think? No IMSB, Bore-scoring is a non-issue.

Thanks, looks a great buy! Looking for a 2.5 myself so not for me...mikal83 said:
2.5..........as the beardy man on Gold Rush says.................you'll be sorry.
Depends on what one is after though, right? I already have a 997 S as my "performance" car. Now what I want is a classic two seater for occasional summer use on Alpine twisties. Needs to be 20+ yrs old to benefit from lower tax & insurance where I'll keep it.
Also depends on the roads. On the twisties, a well driven 2.5 will keep a 3.2 in check.
This 986 3.2 may be of interest to someone - high miles at 148k, but seems to be well maintained with a lot of the problem areas addressed in the last 20k. £4,200.

That's been on ebay for 5000 for a while. Let me have a look in my watch list ... This 986 3.2 may be of interest to someone - high miles at 148k, but seems to be well maintained with a lot of the problem areas addressed in the last 20k. £4,200.

Interesting ebay ad, useful for people to get an idea of real running costs. Considering it seems that the car runs ~10k miles per year, so 15k in 18 months, isn't that a bit short to replace the front brake pads (01/2016 & 06/2017)? Not dissing the car, just curious. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202199250132
On my 997 I've done about 25k miles on the same pads, a lot of those miles were m-way though.

Yeah clearly if you're doing laps on a circuit with long straights and tight bends then you'll hammer your pads. Maybe this has been a track day experience car.On my 997 I've done about 25k miles on the same pads, a lot of those miles were m-way though.
Or the specialist that has been taking care of it has been particularly thorough.
Interestingly, the front pads on mine were completely cooked when I bought it, even though they'd been changed only 13k miles previously The discs were in good condition so replaced the pads with some Brembo items. 10k under my ownership and they seem as good as new.
According to the history, the rears were last replaced in 2005, 80k miles ago! Nothing in the history to suggest they've been changed since, although perhaps they have? Inners are slightly corroded and lipped, cauing some noise. I'll be changing these in the near future.

Well that's opened my eyes to parts/labour costs, maybe my Boxster idea should be a MX-5 idea instead
This will be an eye opener then "https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1r_nfov0ZM-OUwQIPcbF5NFydSQVule6OhOMWigk/edit?usp=sharing" - copy and paste excluding the quotes. Embedding a link seems to break it.
That's my car - purchased September 2016.
A bulk of the cost has been the clutch, DMF, suspension arms all round and front springs. Not regular expenditure. Going forward, it *should* just be routine stuff. If you buy a car that's had these problem areas addressed, they're not too bad. Although, caveat emptor...
